Points protection in assassin games?

Lets say you're playing in an assassin game with 6 players. 5 are genarals and one that has under 1000 points. And it's clear as day that you cant take out your target and win before someone else ends the game. Is it okay to weaken or even take out the private player that's not your target, to keep him from winning, and protecting like 20 points from your score?

Depends:

Are you here to play to the best of your ability, and keep going despite all the odds, play each game to its end no matter the consequences, it is only a game after all? ...
or..
Are you here to accumulate points?

Answer that and you answer your own question!

Of course, given nearly 12,000 active members the chances are we'll get those saying yes to the first and those saying yes to the second.

cheers

I play to win, and I like to think I do so with integrity, so I'm not up for minimising my points loss at the expense of somebody else that outplayed me.

why would a private go in an assasin game with 5 generals???

PS: points don't matter shit. it's an online game with an online comunity and respect is all that matter. moral integrity is worth more than 20 points.

If the private won then it would be a lot more than 20 points!!!!

Yea, cause I dont play to win.

I said if you had the slimest of chances of knocking your target out, like 00.1% of winning.

If someone else is about to take his target out, I'll attack him of course. But it doesn't matter if he's a Private or a General. To me this is not a question of points protection, but it's a question of basic tactics in an assassin game.

Choosing what games you enter based on how it would effect your points is one thing. Actually changing your style of play in a game to preserve them is lame. Plain and simple.

That includes the tactic I've seen where all the higher ranking players on the board gang up to take out the private just to insure that, if they lose, they do so to someone who won't cost them that much. I was fortunate that I had the luxury of playing some highly ranked players with enough sack to simply play the game, even at the expense of me possibly winning when I was a ?.

Anyone who doesn't is an a-hole and must be hugely lacking in the real world to covet the precious ranking they have in an on-line game so much.

well i enjoyed the assasin game and won taking 126 points. If i had lost then that is the game. If u are a general and play like that then u r sad because that is not the way to play a game. Picking on a lowly private so you can save a few points is not very sporting as the idea is to take out your target not the lowest ranked player.

Just a variation on the whole gunning for a private first because he'll take more points if he wins scenario. Not very sporting, in my opinion, and intensly frustrating for privates who may actually learn something if they get to play a few games with higher ranks (rather than being stuck with deadbeat noobs all the time).

For the record, I have not done this at all. You can check my games if you like. Not saying that I would do this either. The thought did cross my mind for some reason as I was taking my turn, and thought I would gather some opinions on it.

i think a new scoring system is needed. average all the player's scores and compare them to the winning player's. the person who got taken out then loses these points. nobody else loses points.

i know that it isn't a gd system and i put no thought into it but we need a new system or something...

i wish people would realize that you also have to help the guys that arent your target. In a game i was in, i figured out who was targeting me within the first few rounds as he constantly attacked me. He owned all of europe and i was getting close to dying, so i kept asking people to break the continent the guy had that was killing me. everyone ignored me in the game and continued to play it as a normal game (it didnt feel like assasin).
i eventually died and i wish that others in the game could have attacked the guy. then they would have had a chance to win.

I have seen higher ranked players complain that in a game with lower ranked players that they are targeted. By trying to weaken the lower ranked player to save you points would be doing the same thingthat higher ranked players complained about. Either way it is wrong, just play to win.
