Why can't I know which territory I lost?

Hi there,

I just have a tiny question, which is in the title: Why can't I know which territory I lost?

It sounds fair to me to know which territory has been attacked and lost. Not necessarily which one attacked me, but I would say that in real war, I would be able to notice (at least) where I ve lost communication.

Right now, it makes it kind of weird not being able to know what I have lost...

I hesitated to post it as a suggestion, but first here

thanks :)

It sounds to me like you're playing a fog of war game. If you would like to be able to see everything that's going on, you should play a regular, non-foggy (aka "sunny") game.

a snapshot will help you remember what country you lost. But because the log does not show it, that is part of the experiance of fog. if you use it correctly, it can confuse your enemy and well, is that not all this game is about?
other then that, the mechanic is that you cannot see much, so once the country turns not you, it will also be gone from the log, otherwise other players would also get to see that piece of information

Thanks,

well, snapshot is a way, but I just thought I should be aware of what I lose in real war. Like I said, not necessarily which territory attacked me :)

Maybe I assumed that the log was personalized (i.e., I can see which territory I lost, or my team has lost, but not the others (team(s)); which might not be!

anyways, I might put it as a suggestion
thanks for your answers

The log is perzonalised, and if your outpost was lost with all hands, who is going to give you the we are dead note?

i think i semi get what you are saying so you would like to see this somthing like this as a alert 2 what you have lost

2011-03-09 08:46:14 - ? assaulted L19 from L18 and conquered it from (you) losing 4 troups

instead of nothing getting shown. i guess it would be useful for maps like the hive. if somthing poped up telling you what trritories you have lost since last turn because the map is 2 big 2 remember

is that not why there is bob and for those without the inclination to download addons, paint and printscreen?

a previously rejected fog idea:https://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1002235
Ah it took me a while. your idea:https://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=471&t=41807&p=1079842&hilit=territories+in+fog#p1079842
rejected in 2008

there are lots of idea;s for a tweak with fog, none made it thusfar

The correct answer is "This is due to poor logic in the implementation of FOW logging". Though few here will admit to that.

I agree that you should know which was attacked and lost. SirSebstar, if we're talking about modern war, then they would definitely know if they were attacked or not. I have BOB so I always try to take snapshots now, but it would be easier if I knew what was attacked because I usually don't recognize that stuff.

comparisons between real wars and games often go wrong.
let us e.g take the afgan war where the dutch and americans killed each other in a friendly fire incident because you know, real war is foggy.. yo9u know which way your gun is pointing, but you never really know what you are shooting at.....

still, fog could have been implemented in a myriad of ways. it is as it is.

Although I'm not too bothered about the current implementation of FOW, your reasons why there is no need for the questioned change to be put in place of you can either use an add-on or print-screen + paint aren't very good. For instance, I join a FOW game first, last player joins and happens to be first to play, he attacks me and I have no idea what's going on. It wasn't my fault I couldn't see what happened...the game mechanics gave the other players a very distinct advantage. You're also telling people to use methods out-with the game, which shouldn't be necessary if it was properly implemented to begin with...everything you need to make it fair should be easily accessible at hand.

Certain add-ons make using the game easier such as BOB showing you where you can attack, but they don't give you an advantage...there's nothing it won't show you that you can't see for yourself...

true,
just fyi, I am not against changes in fog, I just reply to the question with the added information that changes such as these have already been rejected.
So he is certainly not alone in his thinking and he asked if it was usefull to add it as a sugg, and i had to disappoint him
no malice intended.

Hi guys,

thank you for your comments and related topics...

It is indeed too bad, but just to complete my argument: if we were to see the map at each move done (F5 would be our friend), we would have the information... Thus, it is only a matter of compiling the information and not whether it is available. This is why it looks more to me like a missing feature than asking for a different behavior of the fog!

Anyways, since it has been rejected, there is no point for me to go further :)

thanks,
Cheers,

lol?
Usually an outpost gives you a 'we are alive' note every day (be it over phone/radio).
If, at some point, you don't receive we are alive notes anymore, that's pretty much the same right?

well you know you lost a country, because your country total went down, but you cannot pinpoint it because its dead..
i know, i know, fog could have been made any way possible. but the analogy to war is always skewed

100% agree with this thread.

Fair enough if the community want to leave it the way it is, but it is a small moment of confusion for all knew players who join and are learning the ins and outs of play.

And even once you accept it, every so often you wish it did say which lands were captured from you while you scorn your own lack of photographic memory.

Suprised SirSebstar tried to argue this one with real war analogy. So doesnt work :P

Thanks for the 3 months necro dump, only not to read what i have said over 4 times; real war analogy's are skewed and do not work, so yea thanks for making it look like i said the reverse..
