I just realised... they don't. What matters is playing the game in an honourable fashion, and having fun.

Depends on how you think. There are too many here that have a thick connection between their feelings of self worth and their rank. I play for fun, with who I want and whatever maps I wish regardless of how proficient I am on them. What's the fun in cherry picking your maps, opponents, and settings when this site offers so much variety to explore?

My mother taught me when I was 5 to have fun playing games, so then you can enjoy each and every one. If you only enjoy winning games, then you miss out on the pleasure of the ones you loose.

Depends on the "game" you are playing!

In CC winning doesn't matter to me too much.

In the "game of life" winning is pretty important.

If you are a gladiator in ancient Rome, I think you'd agree winning is everything!

points blow, they make everyone pissy, I say play for fun ...

Playing for fun is always a good idea. And I disagree with the "if you're not first, you're last" philosophy. Coming in second and sometimes even third in a hard fought battle encourages me to accept defeat with dignity and it pushes me to try that much harder next time.

perhaps some of us like playing with a goal in mind?
perhaps some us get bored if we're just aimlessly playing random game after game?

i play to maintain a decent rank and attempt to move up
i like winning tournaments
i like maintaining a good winning % in certain types of games

just play for fun is not for everyone

some people are competitive and it has nothing to do with "this gives my life meaning" BS
