Why is "point dumping" bad?

What is "point dumping" bad? My thoughts:

% If someone has only one point and wins an 8-player game against
1000-score opponents, they get 800 points max, because of the
100-points-per-player limitation.

% Once the dumper gets 800 points, winning more games doesn't really
help him that much.

% Since points are calculated based on your score level when the game
ends (right?), not your level when the game began, I don't see the
advantage to point dumping. The moment you score "major points" in
one game, you can't score major points again in another game.

What am I missing? Are people aiming for 32-player tourneys to get
3200 points or something?

People tend to point dump if they get pissed off at the site, and don't plan on coming back.

It's their way of flipping the bird at CC

The main reason is that it makes all rankings less reliable. The players who dump their score get scores significantly lower then they should have, whereas the other players get points they probably shouldn't have had. Besides, point dumping involves intentionally losing games, and that simply isn't fun.

This is easy...the whole "point" of ranks and points is to give an indication of a player's skill level, and to level the playing field as far as the reward for playing other various ranks is applied.

So for a very good player to have a very low point total, they are essentially stealing from whomever they defeat at that point level.

Furthermore, they artificially increase the points of people who join a lot of the games as those players did not have to earn their victories.

and players that recieve these mass amount of points from the dumpers. join games at the level of play there are at and ussually lose that rank fast making it if they do win a game there opponants lose mass amount of points.
