Breaking of a Truce - Chaegan21 v Major Pain

Postby Chaegan21 on Sat Jan 08, 2011 8:00 am

Major Pain is accusing me of breaking our truce in game 8196298 on Napoleonic Europe in an 8 player game with fog of war and Flat spoils
I asked him for a 3 turn truce which suited us both at the time
he agreed to it, but then one turn into it he took two regions off me
His attacks were at 2011-01-06 10:13:24 and my retaliation was right after that
he said the regions weren't important to me because they didn't take a bonus off me
he attacked my regions to get through to a player who only had 3 regions left and who he wanted to eliminate for spoils....he also says that it allowed him to hit the player who at the time was strongest
I attacked him in my next turn pretty much destroying him....I felt the truce was over because he had attacked me!
when i made the truce i could see where the weak players regions were i was trapping him to make sure i got his spoils
I owned Hessen which is part of the Rhineland and i didn't want Major Pain to own all that
when Major Pain took those two regions off me i also lost a one man bonus because my regions went from 12 to 10 regions
as far as i'm concerned he attacked me and broke our truce
he can't decide which of my regions are important and which aren't
I went on to win the game and Major Pain is not happy about it all

I told him i would post this thread to get other peoples opinions on what happened
I really want to know whether people felt he broke our truce and whether or not i was entitled to attack him.
Your comments are welcome....btw i'm sure he'll post his opinion on what happened just under this post.

You communicated badly and are both at fault.

Ok this is wat happened directly from da game logs:

2011-01-06 15:13:18 - Major_Pain deployed 16 troops on Berlin
2011-01-06 15:13:24 - Major_Pain assaulted He: Hessen (Jena, October 1806) from Berlin and conquered it from Chaegan21

2011-01-06 15:14:13 - Major_Pain assaulted Be: Belgium (Waterloo, June 1815) from Ol: Oldenburg and conquered it from Chaegan21
2011-01-06 15:14:30 - Major_Pain assaulted Normandy from Be: Belgium (Waterloo, June 1815) and conquered it from renzuki
2011-01-06 15:14:48 - Major_Pain assaulted Ho: Holland from Be: Belgium (Waterloo, June 1815) and conquered it from Cearrbhach13
2011-01-06 15:15:18 - Major_Pain assaulted Camperdown (October 1797) from Ho: Holland and conquered it from neutral player
2011-01-06 15:15:30 - Major_Pain assaulted London from Camperdown (October 1797) and conquered it from renzuki
2011-01-06 15:21:39 - Major_Pain assaulted Yorkshire from London and conquered it from renzuki
2011-01-06 15:21:53 - Major_Pain assaulted Wessex from London and conquered it from renzuki
2011-01-06 15:22:52 - Major_Pain ended the turn and got spoils

At the time i was asked for the truce, Chaegan was holding the Austrian Empire but was incredibly week. By this i mean he had only 1 troop guarding one of the territories adjacent to me to da South. I was in Poland, Prussia, Russia & Scandinavia wit my main troop base in Germany/Poland. So i had 2 options for my 3 gos. Move out from Germany South into Chaegan in Austria and break his bonus or go west to
A) take my card
&
B) attack the strongest player at the time who was Renzuki.

Was a no brainer which option was best to keep the game in da balance but problem was Chaegan had slyly asked me for a truce wen he basically had me boxed in. So i was gonna have to take out 1 or 2 of his teritories no matter which course of action i pursued.

I decided to do wat was best for keepin the game in da balance. Thus leave Chaegan alone as best i could, leave his bonus intact, take up his offer of a truce & head out west. Along the way i came across Cearrbhach who had very little territories left so i tryed to knock him out but failed. I stayed true to my initial goal though and took 4 territories (including Paris) off the strongest player at the time, Renzuki while the collateral damage ofc being 2 territories (Hessen & Belgium - relatively nothing territories, containing 1 man each & unrelated to any bonus he may or may not have had) belonging to Chaegan.

Maybe i should never have accepted the truce but the problem was that we had one stand out strongest player and for me to invest my 20+ troops into launching an all out assault on the 'alleged victim' here would have gifted the game to Renzuki who at the time in question was already firmly established as the strongest player. And make no mistake about it, Chaegan was at his weakest (to an assault from me at least) wen he asked for that truce (thus why he asked for it i imagine) and i could have easily put an end to his influence on da outcome of the game right there and then, but i chose not to for the good of the game.

I belive this is the 2nd time i have been 'bitten' by this slippery snake. :(
I'll defo know better from here on in.

Sincerely,
Major Pain

P.S. I even left an explanation & apology in da game log for having to hit his 2 regions so it wasn't as if i was tryin to pull a fast one.
Ye have been warned. Beware of the snake that is Chaegan!^^

Well we wrote at the bottom in the chat what we were going to do, and even why we were going to do it.
I think Major Pain could have told me that he was attacking me to get at the weak player because i could have told him that his last region was well away from Major Pain.
But that would have taken a long time and seen as he's in America and I'm in Ireland the time differences really just didn't allow that time of communication.

When asked you for the truce i knew that if you accepted it you wouldn't be able to take the Rhineland
I didn't feel like i had you boxed in because i thought you would be able to attack Renzuki from Britain. I knew Renzuki owned Spain and France(most of it anyway) and that you were fighting him in Britain because i we had early agreed that i would hit him in Spain and you'd hit him in Britain.
I only stopped attacking him because he totally wiped me out in Spain
This left me weak and so the truce benefited me....but the truce also benefited you because you should have been able to attack Renzuki from Britain without wasting men defending your back
I really don't feel like i boxed you in!...you attacked me for your own gain, to get Cearrbhachs spoils!

And I did lose a one man bonus because my regions went from 12 to 10...which considering how few men i had was a loss!

If you have a truce you shouldn't attack the person at all!

if you're apologising then you obviously feel that you did something wrong to me!
I agree that you didn't purposefully go out to get me...but you did attack me and in doing so broke our truce
You must have know when you agreed to truce that you be attacking those two regions in your next turn, because as you said you were(supposedly) "boxed in"
you should have made it a term of the truce that you could attack those regions before agreeing to the truce, or else you shouldn't have agreed to it!
