Excel to post

Postby Super Nova on Thu Jan 06, 2011 12:00 am

Ok, I need to post some things for my tournament, but I can't seem to figure out how to keep my data in graph format from Excel.

You pretty much can't. The best method is to upload your spreadsheets to a viewable site like google docs. You can also take a screenshot of your spreadsheet, upload it as a picture to a hosting site, then post the image in your post.

If you are extremely patient, you could use the code tags to force each character to be exactly the same size, and then use spaces to force exactly the right distance between each entry. That's an awful lot of work and requires a lot of previewing, though.

Code: Select all
text     more text   even more text    End Of Line
let's    try         something         funny

Is there anyway to get it directly from the desktop to a post?

Could you give me some more detailed instruction on this?

Basically, in the code tags, each character (including a space) is exactly the same length. If you copy the text from Excel inside code tags, and then add spaces to make sure that each entry in a column is exactly the same length, you should be able to keep the tabular format of Excel.

For example, "text" contains four characters, "let's" contains 5. Therefore, by adding one more space after "text" then you add after "let's", you make sure that the next words start exactly above each other.

Wow, did you ever try to use this, Michel? It sounds like it's a ton of work.
Uploading an image seems the easier option here.

Yes there is. The clan league images are hosted from Masli's desktop although technically I think they run through a server as well like an image copy of that folder. He creates the images, the puts them into his Public "Dropbox" folder and then uses the correct link. By using the same name on the file, no updates to the post are needed. We have been using Dropbox to share league excel files etc.

http://www.dropbox.com/

Dropbox is a program that allows you to create a virtual network to link your own computers. You can invite people to share folders within then, and there is a public folder to put stuff in that is automatically public, hence the name.
