One of my favourite past times on CC has always been playing percentage players on classic trips. I loved teams comprising of two brigs and a colonel who would create ten or more games, and then just wait to destroy the uninitiated. I would roll up, never take more than one of a teams set, and then get myself some 30-10 action. Or in my early days much better. Wonderful odds nonetheless.

That always made me happy.

So upon my return I waited for some juicy offerings on my new favourite thing, 2 on 2 unlim. dubs 2.1. It started well with a waiting colonel (low) and a captain. In I jumped. I waited for another and I have to tell you, I waited in vain. I've waited days without seeing a hint of game. Not even a bog-standard team, nothing.

I find this appalling. My very enjoyment of the site may hinge on my need to join games I can win with excellent odds. I had a look over at classic trips and found 13 games with the same, admittedly decent team. I can remember when there were teams lining up to offer themselves up for appalling odds. Where have they all gone?

Let me know what games you want to join. I wouldn't mind joining some team-grazing games with an experienced player such as yourself.

There are none.

That's the problem...

Is no cards seq. no longer the thing for the percentage player? Well it was never the thing (take a bow freestylers) but one could maintain a decent CC lifestyle on it before. Many did.

This is just a thought, but is it possible that some of those players moved on to more complicated maps and settings?

Because that's what happened to me... I used to play trips and quads Classic/no spoils/no fog all the time, but not anymore.

Are you distressed by the number of any open team games, or just Classic/no spoils/no fog?

And what exactly do you mean when you refer to these people as percentage players?

If you have only been back for a couple days, it may just be that people aren't on CC as much during the holidays due to family obligations and final exams.

Commander's hypothesis is also probably partially true.

And if I'm not mistaken 'percentage players' are pretty much what you, me, and Dust used to do; set up 50 public trips on a simple map with no spoils or fog, win an overwhelming percentage of the games, but still probably come out in the red pointswise due to the simplicity of the settings.

I feel a percentage player is one who could reliably win 8 out10 of their public team games and maintain a steady income with their 9 point wins...and does so.

With regards to 2.1 2 on 2 I can but agree with you that it is simply not a popular style anymore. Classic trips also seems to have fallen away. I can remember when classic trips was a main style. 2.1 2 on 2 was the thing for how long?

So yeah, I'm selfishly annoyed that there doesn't seem to be any juicy pickings for me on these styles. There always was before. So where are the ridiculously high ranked no cards teams players? Where are the 2.1 teams players of any style?

General, brig, colonel no cards teams with a generous spirit! Where are you???

Well speaking for myself, it became tiresome and I felt like I hit a ceiling of sorts. They were no longer even slightly stimulating, nor conducive to gaining points, so I moved on to other settings.

I believe that the majority of these players have been recruited into the clan atmosphere, in which there isn't a huge advantage in playing simple maps such as these. I used to do it all the time as well, but when you get matched up consistently with players that are on the same level or better than yourself, you have to find something that gives an advantage, whether it be a different map or settings.

But after the holidays, Ill have more time for games. Perhaps I set up a few and give you a heads up if you want to steal some of my points...

For years I could exist on 2 maps playing as many high level games as I wanted. It seems classic and 2.1 (the original and best maps) are now considered past it. Personally, I consider classic way too much of a luckfest with almost any settings (just like Doodle, Luxembourg) and I've been avoiding it.

However, as far as World 2.1 goes, I still play quite a bit of it and it's one of my favourite maps with no spoils, FoW, automatic and chained settings. Rather simple map, but the strategies can be almost limitless - one of the best maps around in CC.

they have figured out a way to win 48 out of 50 and diminish the chances of any decent teams whatsoever even thinking about joining. just start a quad game on a specialty map with three really low ranked players. any decent team looking to join wont bother because there is no upside. you join and win for ten points or lose thirty points...

I'm not sure why, but I can't feel all that bad for you.

You are certainly entitled to join a game against high rankers without being belittled for it.
It's not something I would advertise, but it isn't the worst thing in the world.

I''m just saying that I'm on your side; as one of those high rankers, I would be pissed off if you joined my game with some experienced low rankers.

In case you were wondering, finding a team with matching points would be proper way to go.

I won't get on a high horse, here... I have done what you do (although not for the last few months). I have occasionally gone into a game with significantly less points than my opponents.

But I understand that it is wrong.

As the game creator, the last thing I'm looking for is a good team that doesn't have a lot of points.

Oh, and the reasons why I don't create these games anymore?

- I like to win, and I win more often by playing complicated maps and settings.
- The more I win, the more points I get.
- Self-Improvement. As Pimphawks said, I have reached my ceiling when it comes to Classic. I basically feel that I'm too good for it; that I'm wasting my vast talents on a map that any noob can play. Why not test myself and show off my skills on something that requires a little more thought?
- By getting good at complicated maps, I give myself a better shot at excelling in the clan world.

I mean, I don't HATE Classic. Classic is cool with me. But why should I play it when I can just as easily play Rail Europe? There are just so many reasons not to play Classic, and so few reasons to play it.

It isn't going to make me play more Classic; I just think it's interesting and possibly holds water.

Win 10 Lose 40 or Win 15 lose 30. Also from someone who used to farm fuedal war thats a bit hypocritical.

There is not one brig or above waiting for a trips no cards at the moment on any map. A couple of juicy-looking colonel teams (and I may well join), but where are the super-duper elites?

To frank I am amazed no one is playing/farming 2 on 2 2.1 dubs unlimited. I thought that was a basic 'gimme?' My pal spoongod made a 2.1 risk board (150cm by 50cm) for my home. We play dubs and trips on it. I was looking forward to strategising 2.1 games on my 2.1 board, I come back to CC and find bugger all 2.1 games. This is not good. It is positively upsetting.

So yeah, it seems to me that there are less very high ranking teams setting up public games, and yes this annoys me as I always enjoyed the odds. But this does also make me wonder whether the best seq. teams are now only playing clan stuff (of which there has been an explosion), tournaments or private games.

And is that good for the site? Obviously not for me....but what about the site??

The only time I start public trips anymore is to cross-map new maps. If I'm going to risk 30 points, I might as well do it in a tourney game with a possible medal at the end or in a clan war where the game actually means something and I can talk shit for winning.

Exactly.

And even if I'm crossmapping with a public game, I usually play Esc if it's Sunny.

Too many Captains and Majors can play No Spoils + Sunny extremely well.

You missed the point of my post, It appears as if you are looking down upon the players who play these types of games which would be hypocritical based on your past games. If your post was just meant to be informative then i misunderstood it.

All the other members of my regular quads team more or less temporarily quit CC. Added to that, I don't really feel like playing that many games at the same time anymore, and I'm in a fairly busy clan, so doing my old "make 50 public World 2.1 Quads and let whoever joins join" tactic is right out.

Incidentally, I'm no longer a Brig - or even Colonel. Make of that what you will 8-[
