MISSED TURNS

I just started a new 8 player auto drop stardard world 2.1 game, two lower ranking players missed the first two turns then showed up for their third turn and recieved triple reinforcements that round. When I have broached this subject before people have said that this cant be an intentional stratedgy, that there is no advantage to it. Let me explain the thinking behind this tactic.
Besides obviously getting two turns worth of men to drop at the end of your turn there is the '[i]advantage[i]' of having not spent any men trying to take a bonus that another player wants and ending up in a bloodbath. This allows you to pick a defendable area once everyone else has committed. if you pick a bonus that noone else is contesting at the time you avoided wasting troops in a conflict with another player on the first two turns. If you pick an bonus that is already claimed your opponent has already cleared it and there are only 1's opposing you with the exception of the borders. In addition the player who claimed that bonus has expended many troops taking it, so as long as you are able to crack 1 border to prevent him collecting the bonus on the next round you have all your men available to fight and are facing territories mostly defended by 1's. While your opponent has expended his troops securing the bonus and now has to content with an invader who is able to drop 2 turns worth of troops inside his border due to the missed rounds.
As I said, i just started a new game after two players missed the first 2 rounds I predicted that they would magically recover from their illness and/or fix the computer problem that had prevented them taking their turns. Sure enough, both showed up 1 dropped 12 men on my border and the other managed to place 17 on an opponents. I say if you miss your turn and delay the game by 24 hours you should lose your men for that round.
I also see this happen when a player is dominating a game and is able to secure his borders with a large number of men preventing the possible loss of his bonus during the missed turn and/or turns. When he takes his next turn and recieves double or triple men it is usually almost always the game ender, although it may take a turn or two for him to fully utilize the sudden upsurge in manpower.
However what upsets me most of all is having witnessed this dozens and dozens of time, noone ever admits to having done it intentionally. They have always been either sick away on bussiness or had a computer crash. Man up and at least say "I did it" "it was part of my stratedgy". perhaps someday you will learn to win without resorting to cheap tactics.

i have played here before but was too busy to play when i was taking some classes for personal fufillment and just came back after a year hiatus, so ive played hundreds of games on this site under my previous name, however i have seen it dozens of times in those 52 games since i rejoined. i see one player a game on average (two in the one i just started) do this. so if we take 52 and divide by 12 we get 4 with a remainder of 4 or 4 dozen games. but perhaps math gives you trouble im sure you could find a tutor to correct this easily.

Ugh... bad move guy - the one real rule of the site is no multiple accounts, you need to send an eticket now to explain your situation regarding the past account and why you have a new one, the only real justifiable reason you can give is you forgot the old password

That would not pass because you can get a new password sent to your email

I played on this site previously well over a year ago and closed out my old account when i did, i only started playing here again in the past 6 months or so, since i no longer had an account I opened a new one. I well aware of te multiple accounts rule and i only have 1 account. I think the rule is intended for people who sign up multiple times and play under multiple names at the same time either to play more games or perhaps to cheat somehow. i send the administrators a email when i left indicating i would no longer be playing here at the time and to close the previous account. Its amazing how many assumptions people make on this site, then pat themselves on the back for their brilliance when the truth is they've merely jumped to a wrong conclusion based on inadequet information. i see no point in maintaining an open account on a site i was going to be absent from for more than a year, and i doubt seriously i would remember the old loggin and password after that amount of time as i have a life outside this site and the internet in general. however if the administrators believe ive done something wrong they are welcome to bring it to my attention and we can correct it or i will simply play elsewhere, or some other game. but let me congradulate you on your omniescence, oh all seeing one, someday I hope to be able to jump to conclusions and rash judgements based on assumption and lack of information also

There is no such thing as "closing out your old account", oh wise one.

Rule #1: No multiple accounts

Multiple accounts are discovered by routine scans and community cheating reports. They are strictly forbidden whether or not they play in the same games or are even in use. If you suspect certain accounts belong to the same person, please report it following the instructions at the top of the Cheating & Abuse Reports forum.

Is this directed at me?

You should buy premium really quickly and then see what C&A says. My first post was trying to help you so they don't reset your account or force you to go back to the old one seeing how you had the lofty success of going up to 3 stripes on the old Vicer.

Back to the topic... just report the Multi to the Multi-Hunters.
===

I think if you miss your first turn, yes you should be kicked out of that game and lose points. Yes, you will lose points... but it's not like you had invested any time in that game!

Missing two in a row is bad, but can happen for legitimate reasons.

Missing three in a game is bad... but in really long games that last for months it can happen. I think there should be an ultimate cap. Like say 10 missed turns. Under that... it should be a ratio of the # turns missed / # turns in game. Example... missing 3 turns in a game that has last 80 rounds isn't terrible. Missing 3 turns in a game that is only 20 rounds long; that's bad.

That's fine....

... but we should still get back to the point he was making.

It seems to me to be a valid one.

(Though probably discussed ad-nauseum in other threads.)
