Why is CC fun? (still)

It sure as hell isn't the random generator.
All bitching aside, it really takes the fun out of the game, the site and what little time I still invest in CC these days. (I used to regularly have 100+, even 120+ games going at all times, now I find myself wishing it get below 20)

I know I'm not alone.

I must admit that the dice seem to be extremely unbalanced recently. I have had many many rolls where I had at least 5 times the number of dice as my opponent and I lost. If the dice are truely random, I am being randomed to death. I was up over 2600 points and then started a complete nose dive. It seems to have finally turned, but it was really bad.

As you get better/browse the forms you spend more time on this site with 30 games than you did with 100. Partially to do with the other things you do on the site, partially to do with the amount of time it takes you to make a move (based on game type and you taking longer now that you are better to look at everything). This is how it worked for me personally

Also as you reach the goals you have set out...there is less to play for.

Yeah. But lately, between the strategy guides forum and training clanmates, I'm having fun helping others instead of playing for myself.

McGill University and our QQ sandbox are extremely fun for me. joining a clan gets me more PMs from owen, which is always delightful. tournaments, especially HA's, continue to keep me excited about actual games, as do my fabulous quads team and my dubs with vipey.

I also used to have an arbitrarily large number of games going on at once -- then I became a moderator :D
I keep coming back to CC because of the people, in all honesty.

You know what ruins it for me? Dice bitching threads and the stupidity of the people that make them and those that comment in them that agree.

Sometimes I just wish you were about 50% smarter than you are and I also wish you would take the time to go roll a pair of dice and realize these streaks happen ALL THE TIME with real dice because that is how they work.

Have you ever played craps? Statistically a 7 should be rolled 1 time out of every 6 rolls. Would you believe last month I rolled for 45 min. at an average of 2 rolls per minute without rolling a single 7? OMG, the odds of that happening are only 7.47x10^-8. That experience completely ruined the game for me, I will never play again.

By the way, one word for the answer to the title. Clans.

Last time I played Craps I was at the table for about an hour, we all rolled the dice 96 times and threw a seven 16 times! And it was every 6th roll too! What are the odds!?

You callin' me stupid Chuuuuck? Hmmmmm. I will just let that go.

1. This isn't craps.
2. My team should never be down 21 armies in a trips game before the third player on my team even gets a turn.
3. Probability, Odds, and Randomness are three entirely different things.
4. I agree with you that the clan atmosphere is the best thing CC has going.......as long as you don't play any games.
5. How many threads/great players leaving/et.al. is it gonna take for something to be done? Is there anything we can do anyway?
6. I am not the only one to feel this way.

Look, the dice are most likely random, fine, I can agree to that. That fact needs not to be argued anymore and I'm fine not arguing it.... I want BALANCED dice (is that a better term for you?), something where I can look at a kill run again and feel confident that my 35 stack will beat the string of 11 singles. I don't want to lose 0-6, 0-6, 0-12, 0-6, 0-6 in the same game anymore to an inferior player (twice). I also don't want to have my 11 stack taken out by a 9 with him having 7 left over, repeatedly, any more.

The thrill of the attack and the kill have been replaced for me with dread of the random/unbalanced dice......Chuuuuck, I have the fear.
And that is not good.
Or fun.

CONQUER CLUB IS A SODDING FIXED GAME CONTROLLED BY PEOPLE WHO WANT TO REMAIN THE BEST. THERE IS NO WAY IN THIS UNIVERSE THAT SOMEONE COULD PLAY 9 GAMES AND LOOSE EVERY SINGLE TURN WITH TROOPS LIKE 17 - 1, 15 - 1 9 - 2 ETC. YOU GET A PROMOTION THEN CONQUER CLUB SEES THAT THEY KNOCK YOU STRAIGHT BACK DOWN. WHAT A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS !!!!!!!!!! THERE IS NOTHING RANDOM ABOUT THAT IT IS ALL CALCULATED

1/2 minute speed games has made it's way up the list of things Lack would like to do. I think he's slated a few updates that have an impact for all users, and then an update more geared toward something like this (premium).

The only worry I see with those super-short speed games, is that once the time ends but you haven't completed your turn yet, you lose any spoils you have earned from assaults, and in even more extreme cases, if you've started the turn but haven't finished deploying, you end up losing those troops as well, so it'd be cool if that could somehow be addressed as well.

The main reason CC is still fun, is because I always experience joy when I achieve something, either win a hard-fought game, or a tourney, get a medal for some long strived-for task etc.
The thing however, is that I think it's very important for people not to start living and breathing CC, it gets worrisome if your rl moods follow the up and down swings of cc life or dice. So It's good to sometimes just take short breaks and not be totally engrossed in the game.

Disclaimer: The views expressed in this post are solely by the poster, and in no way try to reflect the views of Team CC in the matters concerned.
PS. This is, in a self-deprecating way, aimed to deflect any accusations directed towards members of the 'jr mint mod squad' (trademarked by the hallowed owenshootercc) over any offensiveness perceived by this post on those who are joyfully engrossed in the game

You have completed 428 games here on CC, of those 329 have been 1v1's. You have managed to win 46% of your games.
In every one of these 329 duels you've played you've started with the exact same number of troops as your adversary. You have not been able to supply your troops with superior armament than your adversaries, nor train them to greater discipline or cohesion. In fact You have no control over how these troops will perform when you send them into battle, and can only blindly pray that superior numbers at the given location of battle will give you advantage.
You play alone, Without team mates to utilize turn-order or strategic reinforcing to your advantage.

Thus alone on the field, with an equal amount of troops as your opponent, you must, from your scattered and random starting position, rely on your ability to read the field better than your opponent, and move your troops more wisely, to create conditions for your victory.

Now considering how little you control, not your starting position, not your troops performance (dice), is it so hard to understand that your ability to read the field and act thereafter can only get you so far. That even if you become exceptionally skilled at this, if facing competition that understand the game, your win percentage will most likely never far exceed 55-60%?

In plain English game selection is your problem, not dice. playing sequential 1v1's on easy maps against random competition will never see you hold a rank of substance.
---
Poor poor dice, they just get the blame for everything. It's rarely if ever their fault though, from game selection to expectations or arrogance, it's always the person, never the dice.

The thing that keeps me here for the most part is the clan aspect. Without that and meeting the people through it, I would not be having the fun that I do. I probably never would have gone premium either. Also, to all the dice people, play it in real life a bunch. I've played it hundreds of times, and everything I've seen on CC, I've seen there.
