Smashing stacks in a 1v1...

Is it considered rude to do this? I can understand in a 3 player game, as this would give the game to the other player, but in a 1v1? I had a player sent me an angry pm because of this. Did they just have a stick up their ass or is this really frowned upon?

As long as it's not suiciding, you should be fine. Otherwise, just FAMO from the other player and things will probably work out.
