Unfair First Strike [answered]

After playing 2000+ games on conquer club, I came to the conclusion that sometimes first strike might be unfair. For example, if "classic" is played with a 1v1 setting, each player starts off with a deploy of "5" , If the person with first strike takes out one of his opponents territories [possibly two, forgot exact number] , his opponent starts off with a deploy of "4" . I believe sometimes map like these are unfair for the ones with first strike. Does anyone feel that way or is it just me.

The official guides in the strategy forum look at such inequalities and recommend which maps are "fairer" & which are more fun on particular settings. With 14 starting regions per player, Classic is actually one of the more even 1on1 maps, as it's hard to reduce an opponent to 11 regions on the first turn.

After 2000+ games, one would hope that you knew a classic 1v1 game started each player with 14 territories. This means that they each get 4 to deploy at the start, and the person to go first would have to take 3 spots from their opponent to reduce them to a deploy of 3.

That's not to say that this isn't one of the "unfair" things about 1v1 games. Just that you could've picked a better example.

True, you wrote "classic", but based on the rest of what you wrote, you were talking about a completely different map.

Again, don't take this the wrong way. I understand what you're talking about. I just think that if you're going to preface a statement with something that tries to imply that you have a well-informed opinion (mentioning the 2000+ games), you should probably avoid following it up with statements that make it appear as though you don't know the first 2 things about the subject matter (getting every single number wrong in your explanation).

Today, in a flat rate four man 8 Thoughts game, for my first turn I got to deploy 7. Everyone else got 3. That definately gave me an advantage. I wouldn't say it's unfair though. Starting off by receiving an extra 4 troops a shot, in a flat rate game? Yes please. :D

And you know you would feel the same if it was you. ;)

This is also why they tell map makers not to make maps with 48-51 territs or 60-63. (These numbers correspond to dubs, where you only have to kill one opposing territ to lower your opponents drop).

What can be said if you were the 8th person to take their turn, and everyone before targeted you?
It's a game sometimes you win sometimes you don't.

I think Africa would be a better example then. If I'm not wrong, I believe in 1v1, both players start with 15 regions, and the person going first has a decided advantage

Absolutely! That's why I try to avoid maps like Africa for 1v1 games.

Maps with 60 territories are good, I find (CCC, North America, Chinese Checkers, Charleston). Each player starts with 20, giving them a deploy of 6, and in order to reduce the opponent, they would have to take 3 spots on the first go, which while not impossible, doesn't happen very often.
