Clickable maps app. unfair advantage in freestyle?

It's my opinion that the clickable maps app is an unfair advantage in freestyle games which forces users to either install the app or not play freestyle games.
If in this case the clickable maps option is not standard for all games isn't it then in reality a "game cheat"?

My computer screen has a smudge on it and a crack. It makes it hard for me to see the map and respond as fast as everyone else. I think everyone should have to rub some food on their screen and crack part of it so that things will be fair.

Freestyle is about playing quickly. If you can't play as quickly as other people, play sequential. It's what I do.

Yes it's available to everyone but most of the community is unaware of it. If you want to have any chance you'd need to install it, so it forces people to use it when you shouldnt have to.

And if you want to have any chance, you need to have a high-speed connection. And a reasonably fast computer. And a browser capable of interpreting modern Javascript. A lot of people don't have these things. Let's face it - freestyle is not for everyone.

I haven't forgotten that - we would not want to trivialize the smudged-screen demographic, or the dead pixels demographic.

freestyle is a battle of who has the best internet connection/lives closest to the server.
you get the odd player who isnt as fast but can still match it with the clicky junkies...
Dont like it you have two options
a) find some friends who you trust to not use clickies when playing freestyle
b) dont play it

He's talking about 24hr freestyle, where on our side of the world we commonly wake up to everyone having taken two turns.

Way back when i used to believe this but since playing freestyle a lot, i have learned speed helps but strategy is way more important, at least for most freestyle game types. No matter how fast you are, you aren't going to win a 8 player escalating freestyle unless you know what you are doing. I guess if you were truly slow it would matter but as long as you are reasonably fast you will be able to compete. Also the main thing that kills people for freestyle games is that they dont take their turn at the end of the round and thus the other player can react to what they do and has an advantage that they can break bonuses/take bonuses and then begin at the same time as the other player the next round and often times get more troops as a result.

i personally believe it is a cheat. thus i don't play game settings where it can be used to decide the outcome of a game. i also don't like the counter on the game now. it makes it too easy for people to see things that they may not recognize. most of the add ons/cheats make it easier for people to play the game without having to think. i am an old man and enjoy taking my time to add up troops and bonuses, etc... long story short, if you don't like clickies, don't play settings where it can be used against you...-the black jesus

Well of course i could do that. My beef is with the CC administrators for allowing a game cheat that can change the outcome of a game. If it isnt standard for all players in the game then it shouldnt be allowed to b used in that game. no different than having an app that gives you 2 armies per 3 terr. held.

in freestyle games it is that significant.

Someone with a clunky computer like I used to have is at a disadvantage in freestyle, period (clickies or not).
Someone with a good puter like I have now, with an internet connection like I used to have, is at a disadvantage in freestyle, period (clickies or not).
Someone with a good puter like I have now, with a decent internet connection like I have now, is at a disadvantage if they are not using clickies and their opponent is.

So, there are three options I just gave that would put someone at a disadvantage in freestyle games. If the logic is, admin is at fault for allowing something that changes the outcome of the game, then freestyle should be banned, period. So should speed games for that matter. Or..don't play settings where it can be used against you

"It" could be your puter ram; your internet connection; or clickies.

The moral of the story is, don't play freestyle (or speed) unless you can rely on your ram, your connection, and clickies/no clickies, being approximately the same as your opponent's ram, connection, and clickies (or lack thereof).

So.. no, clickies is not a cheat.

I don't play freestyle, or speed (or rarely do) and I do not use clickies. So I'm not one of the supposed 'cheaters' posting here. Despite that, I disagree with the O.P.

One thing that does bother me, though, is that freestyle games have their own medal, PLUS freestyle games are counted for the normal game-win medals. I think they should be separated.

Since you are a freemium I will assume you do not play speed. With that said casual freestyle and clickable maps is a moot point. Anybody who is half decent at casual freestyle will tell you it is all about timing and not being a total idiot. Until recent I played on a POS(Piece of Sh*t) comp that was from 2000 or so. I won tons of games, pre CM and after CM came out. Speed games even. OK sure if you are on dial up speed games are not for you. Not even seq speed. If you are on a faster internet connection than dial up it is all the same in casual freestyle. Timing is everything in casual freestyle. Until you understand this the rest matters not. In a speed game it is more about speed, since everybody is there. Even still you need lots of skill to win. Hey shocking a speed game about speed.. DAMN! Who would have thought that?

The thing is, it's not a question of "allowing" it or not. Greasemonkey scripts simply add new Javascript which makes the page better for your viewing purposes, but it's not like those people get extra information or an advantage from the server. They're just able to manipulate their browser in different ways. They couldn't really ban it, for that reason, although they could ban it from the add-ons forum (of course, there are ways to make such add-ons unusable, although it's not the easiest thing to do).

Let's stop kidding ourselves. People use the clickable maps script because it gives them an advantage over players that do not.

Most players start using this app because they've played games against those that do and saw for themselves the advantage it gave to their opponent, and instead of protesting the unfairness of its use decided to join the cheaters themselves. I refuse to do so.

Example of cheat: I'm in a freestyle game and the turn is open, i'm first up. It's in the middle rounds and i come in to place my armies on my opponents neighboring terr., he is watching and waiting for it to open. I come in and because he is using clickies has come in right behind me, placed his armies and taken 3 terr. one of which is the one i was going to place on. So for 10 seconds im trying to drop on another terr. but it keeps coming up "illegal fort." because he has already taken it! so i decide to drop on a terr. "just behind" the line. and he stops his attack. I'm stuck on an island with no card op. and all because he's using clickable maps! IT'S A GAME CHEAT!!!!!!!!!!

We know that Clickable Maps is a terrific feature. We currently have a project coder working on it for the website as a whole. I know I'd like to have Clickable Maps as a regular CC feature!

Just want to throw this in. I have a decent computer with a fast connection and clickies. I also think I understand the strategy of most game types pretty well. However, I can't play 8 players singles games with guys like scott-land or kog and expect to have much chance of winning. It is a different type of game that has to be learned and practiced. Just having the equipment is not all there is to speed freestyle. For this reason I don't play it much. I only got the medal playing freestyle assasin on doodle earth which is much simpler because it is so small.

Just lost another 21 points to a clickie user. Was this a reflection of my skill level or because of his use of the Game Cheat?

I'm all for apps to improve the game play, but they must be integrated into the game.

Just be honest, as it stands now. IT IS A GAME CHEAT!
