atleast for now..
since when you beat someone major and above you stand to gain about a million points but if they beat you they only get around 6-10 points..

so thats why you can loose 5 out of 6 but as long as you keep joining the games of the highranked player you will eventually get lucky and still be points positive!

but you dont find too many people of more than 2000 points playing 1v1's im afraid.. have no idea what it could depend on but for some reason that is the case..

(loser's score / winner's score) * 20, up to a maximum of 100 points from each opponent

It's because that point system works the other way, too. If you are high ranked, say with 2000 points, and you 1v1 with a cadet (800 points):
Game 1: Major wins, gets 800/2000 * 20 = 8 points
Game 2: Major wins, gets 800/2000 * 20 = 8 points
Game 3: Major wins, gets 800/2000 * 20 = 8 points
Game 4: Cadet wins, gets 2000/800 * 20 = 50 points

Major won 3/4 games but still comes out with a loss on points.

Moral: most players try to play opponents at or above their own rank.
