Well that's obvious... I'm looking for more detailed tips!

BTW I think tip #2 is a general rule of thumb in this game!

pay close attention to turn order... if its ur turn and the enemy has a cont but ur partner will play before the bonus gets added then it may be best to support your partner and let them take the cont instead of u tryin.

communicate well and keep each other updated on cards situations

if the worst comes to the worst then u can take ur partner out for their cards. i hav won a few games by doing this and if u time it rite then it can mean u storm into the lead.

get an experienced doubles partner who can teach u in game. thats the best way to learn.

Aye - it's really all about communication - let your partner know what you're doing and vice - versa. Joey seems to have given some pretty good advice but my own tip: don't play with a new recruit (apologies if you are one yourself) - very often they won't show up to take a turn and that fucks the game for you.

Hey - I thought the bad language was supposed to be X-ed out but my "f*ck" seems to have shown up alright. However, I have not been on the site in this past month - maybe things have changed again

My best tip: If your new to the whole concept of doubles then get some1 who will boss your around and help you get a graps of the whole game. What i mean is some1 who will write you a pm with the plan on the next go for you, then you can read it and see how the pro's do it, when i 1st join marvaddin wrote me out a plan and i kept them all, and i kept reading them to see why and how he was taking the goes, and now, i feel (eventually ;)) im good enough to play and write shit for others to follow :P Gl bro.

I play mostly triples these days, but I think the partner-thing works pretty much the same way as with doubles - maybe a little less intense, since with doubles it's really just you and him/her....

Yes, we all see the board in different ways. It's crucial that you and your partner are on the "same page". You both could have 2 great plans, but will lose if you are not working in concert! Communication is VITAL!

Trust is also very important, believe it or not. You have to have confidence in your partner....that he will not squander your fortifications or do something TOTALLY unexpected, that he will not miss a turn, etc. And this comes with time, playing with certain partners many times...

This suggestion works well for me: Don't overthink your move and don't ruminate on it after your turn! Sometimes the move possibilities seem endless. weight them out - check in with your P if he's around (really great when he is!), make what u believe to be the best decision for the momment, and just DO IT. Then when you click that "end fortification" button, leave your game, leave your computer and give yourself a well-deserved break - you earned it!! lol

at the beginning of a game it also pays of more if you focus on one of you getting a region quick instead of both of you go for a region alone. so deploying to the mate that has better chances to get a region quick pays of cause he then gets quicker more reinforcements and can give them back to you. the other partner should try to place himself infront of one of the others border, (makes it easier to hold the region).
well i know everyone knows that tactic , but you asked for hints so i posted this one.

this especially pays of in triples, making one mate get a region very quick then help the second one and the 3rd may is only used to help defending the borders.

also building up a you talking me out area pays of by searching for regions that look like one quater of dart disc, one holds the "bull eye" the other one the ring after the "bulls eye" and the first one the outher ring. placin some units there and fortifying at the end of every turn to the outher or middle ring. ( i hope you understand what i mean) that gives you the option to take out your mate whenever the situation would let it pay of (cashing in 3 sets after the take out) and no enemy can do so or at least not easy.
to show what i mean i do an example: at montreal (blue and yellow are mates) you can use the off shore region for a nice you takeing me out tactic.
blue holds ST.Bruno , St.Lambert, Vieux Longueuil
yellow holds St.Hubert , Boucherville.

at the end of blues turn , blue fortify whatever he had in St.Lambert and Vieux . to his mate in St. hubert , boucherville,
yellow does the it the other way round at the end of his turn.
you are able to do a save take out any time (of course depending on situation and you have to take his other countrys too )

montreal is kind of a bad example because you may need the bonus of of shore, but it is good to understand what i mean .

edit: even in flat rate this can pay of if you two have the right combination of cards if the one that does the elimination would own 9 cards after doing so and be able to cash in 3 strong sets. then having 30 or 28 units to cash in and be able to do a takeout of one other player.

montreal is a bad example but at world 2 it is really a good idea to bulid up such an area because it also makes it very difficult for any other player to take out one mate of your team
in world 2. skandnavia works good for such a thing with sweden being the bulls eye

there are two situations in a doubles game:
1. one player being the leader and the other doing mostly as he is told
2. both deciding on the outcomes of the game.

in both situations communication si the key.

i can tell you about the first situation. look at your partner if he is an expirienced player let him be the boss, because he has seen a lot more than. if he doesn't take over command its up to you!
say always what you want from your partner and ask him to do the same so there can be trust involved.

if your think your partner is doesn't doing the right thing, don't hesitate to say, many games have been lost my one partners mistakes. i lost one my self, but that doesn't mean you should critisise hes every move.
he might have a good plan!

the second situation i dont know.
im always the leader in doubles games!

I have one tip:

USE COMMON SENSE TO GAIN ANY ADVANTAGE OVER THE ENEMY BETWEEN YOU POSSIBLY

it's pretty general, but "tips" generally don't work in practice, you just have to learn how to play better, what to do in certain situations... most of all, think quickly (if your playing freestyle)

continents worth less than 3 bonus are all that matter in doubles
