Game chat

Postby Yeoha on Sat Jun 26, 2010 7:58 pm

Hello, everyone. (I apologize in advance if this should be in the Questions and Answers forum, I couldn't really make up my mind as to where it should go.)

I joined Conquer Club about a week ago, and I have played a few games. I've gotten several lucky wins and have been shocked multiple times by the outcome of some of my games. It seems to be a great website and I look forward to spending some time here.

In every game that I've joined, I have tried to talk a bit: asking my opponent how their day was, etc. However, most do not respond or if so, only with a mere "Hi." and give no appearance of wanting any further conversation. On the other hand, I have also run across a topic in this forum where people copied and pasted extensive chats which they have had with others.

How often do people use game chat here? I can't ignore the feeling that I am setting my expectations a bit too high when I ask people how they are doing upon entering a game.

Some people will use chat and have a conversation with you while others will just take turns and move on it really depends on the player. Also most of the chats in that thread you were looking at were from team games and in team games people especially regular partners tend to talk more in the chat. Also often in speed games people will chat more as there is time you are waiting between turns.

As ljex said, it depends from game to game. Some games will be played without a single word, whereas others may result in months of extensive dialogue.

Doubles games with more than two teams tend to have more visible game chat (as oppposed to team chat), because there may be moments in the game where a particular team has good control of the map and other teams want to ally against that strongest team.
Also, games involving "controversial" players (especially players with high ranks) may have more game chat as usual, often because ppl outside of the game find it humourous to poke fun at the said player.

agree with all above. also, sometimes people use game chat to make themselves popular in the game so people are less likely to attack them. additionally, diplomacy is only legal if negotiated in game chat. truces are legal if formed in game chat, but someone may accuse you of being a cheap tactician if you engage in a truce or diplomacy. but they would be silly billies for doing so.
