When you eliminate a player and usurp his/her cards, do you need to have at least 5 to cash them in immediately or can you simply cash in a set regardless of how many you have in total?

I know that if you have over 5 cards but more than one set that you may cash in both sets.

yeah you need to reach a total of 5 before you can cash . 4 or less you can use on your next go

That's what I thought but I find it strange that you can cash in two sets at once since, technically, when you cash in the second set you usually have less than five cards.
