Dear Abby....

Dear Abby...

I've got no games on at the moment, so i want someone to talk me into one... For years i've played my 1st love, mostly 6p std seq esc on the Classic map. But lately I've been starting to get kinda wild (just finished a 4p esc game on Pearl Harbor, which is wayyy outside my normal comfort zone). I have friends that play teams and maps that make no sense to me, and they even play without escalating cards sometimes. And they seem to be having fun. I'm kinda tempted to experiment, but i don't want anything TOO crazy, so just how do I go about this? Should I make the first move or just stay loyal to my first love?

I'd be more than happy to have you sample the delights of a europa 8 man no cards with me (which coincidentally I'd just set up before reading this). The advantages? Usually excellent gamechat, the chance to play out numerous European conflicts every once in a while from the perspective of England, France, Italy, Germany, or Russia, the challenge of overcoming the first hurdle of getting beyond the first 20 rounds (which roughly equate to historical years) so as to bed in to the mid. game with a long-term strategic objective in place. Europa is the finest of long no cards games and as a public one there will be enough variety in play to make it both genuinely dangerous in the early game, for (as we all know) a uniform high ranking game will just bed in boringly. Not to say it won't go very long, it might...but there is always the chance of a perfect 60 rounds of free-flowing action.

Dear WANDERING EYE,

It's clear you've made a commitment of the common-law sort to 6p std seq esc, but the question i have for you is this: is it a mutual commitment? Are your needs being satisfying? Are you being encouraged to blossom? Do your friends miss you? Do they feel like you're being controlled, and kept from experiences which might allow you thrive?

Here's what you do, if you answered yes to one or more of the questions above: contact some friends with whom you feel comfortable, and join them in a mutually satisfying team game. Allow them to guide you and show you the crazy joys and roller-coaster of emotions just waiting to be had in team games. Or if you'd prefer to take a baby step, try a 4 or 5 player esc game on a new map (again, interaction with your friends is a critical component of this plan!).

I have faith that you'll seize control of your own life and happiness, and experience all that CC has to offer!

Also, for anyone interested, you can order my Make Friends, Get Wild and Crazy, and Try New Games booklet for $5.95 (please also include a SASE).

Don't fall for these silver-tongued teamers... they promote a path of wanton depravity, promiscuity and short-term thrills. "I've played thousands of opponents!" they cry, and I bet they have... the hussies.

Stick with standard..a lone wolf shouldn't join the pack. Relish your kills alone but take your time with them for a change. The end is sweeter, I promise you.

What are you looking for robin? Do you want dubs, assassin, quads? Do you want dubs on a standard map, or do you want Waterloo? Could play assassin on doodle, or play assassin on a big map with fog. Quads you can play on a medium sized map or on a huge map like world 2 or WWII Europe. Or you could follow Mr. chang down the dark path of "build games" So what is is that you fancy?

I play all the maps and I only have a few I hate.

Arms Race is the best--I would team up with you any time if interested.

Come play no spoils poland with me! Sunny, seq, 6 player, standard... it's a fun game. Everyone's focus on that one territory, the place of power, the PAF... people keep building, until someone goes for it, after which someone else takes it from him, and the third guy who's been stacking troops on his commander laughs as the 2nd player takes all other commanders except his... It's kind of like the "king of the hill" game, a bunch of kids pushing each other off the hilltop, the one who pushes all the other kids down so they have concussions and nose bleeds wins.

If you're interested I'll make the game & invite you.

ps. we can also make it escalating, it's almost as fun, the game is just shorter.

I don't think I ever had the pleasure of playing you before spending the last two years away from the site, mainly cos I hate esc.

So maybe we could do eachother a favour and you could host a classic esc game which I will be happy to lose onand you can join what looks to be a real mother, Hive on flat rate :-)

I bet you are you saucy little minx. Scrabble for starters, followed by a brisk game of lawn tennis, a spot of bridge for afters and to end the evening, a nice little game of German bondage whip fest dildos (Bavarian rules).

Lovely.

Well i must say thanks to all who responded... and i will endeavor to reply to each...
=========================================================================

1st up is Mr Changsha, inviting me to sample the delights of europa 8 man public no cards. The "genuinely dangerous" start reminded me of Mr. C's somewhat suicidal desires when he wanted to slit his wrists and live homeless on the street (speaking CC metaphorically of course)... And yet, this setting intrigues me, so i clicked on the game... alas, already started... just as well, not sure i'm ready to break bread with the homeless of CC just yet, lol... But Mr C posted a 2nd time with some profound advice... "Relish your kills alone but take your time with them for a change"... Intriguing... Mr C, please let me know how it goes,,, i would love to peek in on this game from time to time...

JOHNNYROCKET24 was the 1st to try to get me in the doubles sack, but wouldn't that be the same as sleeping with 90% of CC? I've heard JR really gets around, lol... So Johnny, what kind of map would you be thinking about for this?

Foxglove gave a most appropriate and perfect response... Following in the Dear Abbie theme, she responded with Dear WANDERING EYE, and proceeded to ask the right questions, opening the door to providing sound advice, with generous helpings of humor... and then words of encouragement.... I savored each and every word of this, and not only that, i am seriously considering taking her advice,,, baby steps, baby steps... oh, and Foxie, does the booklet you offer come in a bathroom book version as well?

Georgerx7di was next, and he simply overwhelmed me with things i know nothing about... assassin, quads, Waterloo, doodle,,, these all sound like contraband to me... but i must thank George for being so willing to accommodate any desire i might have... But now i must ask you George, are those all games you play? I did not know you were leading a double life.

HighlanderAttack has apparently experienced all that CC has to offer,,, and rates Arms Race at the top... this intrigues me, as i have only known him from high society 6p std esc parties... I just might want to team with you to see what this pinnacle of play is, especially since it sounds like a map that requires experience... So Highlander, what are the best settings for this map?

Next was natty_dread inviting me to join him in a no spoils poland seq, std 6p... Apparently Poland plays like "king of the hill", which sounds kinda interesting... not sure i'll like it, but perhaps i'll give it a try, especially since it can still be escalating... So natty, tell me, who would the other 4 players be?

mrdexter was quite the gentleman, offering to join a classic esc game of mine even though he hates esc... Although if this is quid pro quo for playing on that hive map, you can just forget it...

And finally, happy2seeyou "popped" into this thread... successfully causing me to do a full face palm Image ---mind you, it's not the FIRST time :-$ --- So happy, whatever craziness i get myself into here, i would like for you to be there too, that is, if you're serious about being up for more... afterall, you were there for the 4p Pearl Harbor game... oHH RAHHH! :P

Anyone who wants... I play anyone, anytime, with no discrimination... I'm very open-minded on these things... ;)

You're welcome to choose some players for it if you wish, though.

Dear WEIC:

You are always welcome to play with me in any of our xi games....we typically play 4 - 6 player singles and require that no alliances are ever formed. My personal fave maps are x-word, solar system, AOR (with fog), Iberia and the occasional 8 person Conquer Man kill fest. Our fearless leader Glide (CRUSTY OLD BEAR [COB]) always has lots of games on lots of maps with lots of settings as well. I only play escalating. Should you desire to join, simply let me know ;o)

Cordially,

OLD GUY IN OREGON (OGIG)

Dear Abby,

there is a wandering eye needing your help. It´s lost in California, and many natives cross it´s way, trying to make false offers. They are all sneaky bastards trying to catch the eye which is the most famous forum eye catcher. They are all jealous of this eye catching eye so they try to catch it in order to get a chance to get famous in forum too. They want to keep the eye busy in a assassin mission, not knowing that everybody targets it, while they try to get fame in forum with questionable posts. Help an eye in trouble Abby.

sincerly yours

das Keksmonster

play a doubles game on a map you're familiar with or try your existing game settings on a different map.

Want a different map? Play Middle east.
Want a doubles partner? pick someone, but I would recommend you play a 6 player dubs game because it will play to your strengths

Hay robin,I am leading a double life : P. I don't play assassin by choice any more, but have played it a lot. Everything else is fair game pretty much, there may be 4 or 5 maps that came out recently that I haven't played, otherwise I know just about all of them. There's probably 4 or 5 more that I'm fairly bad at, otherwise you can pick just about any map and most settings and I would play a game with you.

Or you can shoot me a pm and I'll pick something, I just need a description. You can say something easy that you won't have trouble adjusting to, or something totally different that you have never seen before. Quads are fun because we would have others to chat with, dubs are fun too, I'll leave suggestions and what not. Let me know.
