Dealing with the tough loss

I know that I'm relatively new here, and that I'm due for a lot more heartache from this maddening game.

But I was in this one game, and I never thought I had a chance, and then all of a sudden the universe aligned and it looked like I had a pretty good chance of getting some cascading escalating cards and thus ending the game and getting a fat stack of points.

http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=148975, for those that are interested.

Yeah, the loss hurts. I actually didn't have much fun at the bar tonight because I couldn't banish it from my mind. My question is this: how do all you fellow CCers deal with the close-run, almost-had-a-grip-of-points loss? Does it just roll of your back once you've got a few hundred games in? Or can you just give the 'it's just a game' shrug? Or do you rant and scream and such?

'Cause I tell you what, this one is going to stay with me.

i have 6 or 7 games that i feel sick about when i think of how close i was...

i can tell you how and why i lost every one...and they were all my fault

except for when spy sweeper came on and slowed me down enough to lose...that was just not right

and wicked is right...i beat her in the two games we played and she took it very well

I'm sure I'll be okay, and I'm certain I've read elsewhere on this site (probably in relation to the dice) that people have a psychologically predilection toward remembering the tough loss more sharply than the big win.

It's funny how much something so inconsequential can get under one's skin.

I'm going to crawl into that aforementioned dark hole now

I'll take some from Column A and some from Column B. Maybe toss a sixer of ale in there too. If that doesn't work, nothing will. \:D/

after a couple hundred games they just roll off your back. even so, i have had difficulty coming to grips with this week of bad luck (culminating in a 24 v 4 loss)

minor bad luck is more annoying in a way (12 v 3 always has a bit of foreboding about it).

when something like that happens (24 v 4 or similar) its too incredulous to be pissed with it most of the time. it depends on the game too. if im playing a bunch of colonels and can get 20 odd points instead of 8 then it has a little more effect..

The game is really not a loss if you learned something from it...

Understand every loss and your game will steadily improve.
And simply knowing this is what allows you to rise above not just any loss, but above losing streaks as well.

Well, right off the bat I want to thank everyone for making me feel better.

(hell, I'm back in the top 200, at least for the moment, so that makes me feel half-decent)

I suppose what it boils down to is that I need to play a bunch more games here. And, you know, rock the weed and 'gina thing. 8) AND keep learning (which I'm doing, and one of these days I'll be able to write the definitive CC strategy guide... available soon on Amazon  )

I take it back. What it REALLY boils down to is this: win or lose, this site is so much goddamn fun I can hardly stand it.
