I think AAFitz is completely right about this.

I'm almost positive that I read a post by Dako saying this couldn't be done. You'd have to enter the game for an auto-snap to initiate, but if you enter the game, you're already there to take a snapshot yourself.

AAFitz wrote:An auto-snapshot really would be the easiest solution to this. Ill assume that its been suggested before though. Both sides should get to see the board at inception. It also has to be the easiest fix to level the playing field.

I found the post: viewtopic.php?f=441&t=136588&p=2993763&hilit=snap#p2993763

Dako wrote:It might be possible to auto-snap the fog game but it will be hard to do. You actually need to visit that page and see if the game was just initialized. After that check the chat for existing snapshots and maybe get one. I think it will be too hard to do. Well, at least I don't have time for that, sorry.

There's just a lot of whining and back and forth petty arguing in this thread. I'm not reading the whole thing.

I just want to know exactly what this "12 hour fog rule" is.

If you read the first two pages(or first post) you'd see that it isn't a RULE. And yes that is basically it, what you gathered there.

Seriously, bite it.----Really though?

Yeah, I'm irritable today but you can deal with it for today.
I read two of the pages and all they were was complaining and back and forth BS.

I gather the rule is:
After joining a fog game, please wait 12 hours so everyone can see the drop.

I would like to know EXACTLY what the rule is. Just so I'm clear. O_-

Well, I will tell you what...you can be irritable all you want for as many days as you want and I WON"T deal with it at all, welcome to my foe list.
Go away and be unproductive to the discussion in some other thread.
please.

Check my ratings. I'm a very friendly person.
Just today I have had my fill of people wasting my time with useless commentary. Or trying to take some perceived advantage in the way I word things.
In general, there has been far to much stupidity in the last 24 hours for me.

In regard to the rule: My stance is that the object of a fog game is to not know where your opponent is unless you track their movements.

Thank you, InsomniaRed, for helping to make that clear. Now I am aware of a certain way people play some games on CC and will better be able to deal with them if the need arises.

Thank you.
I hope no one holds my bad day against me at this point. It would be a shame to miss out on playing against someone good because of one mistake.

Fog Etiquette?

Postby lostatlimbo on Wed Jul 27, 2011 4:44 pm

I was surprised recently when an opponent apologized for taking his turn before I saw the map and then listed out the territories he acquired in his first turn. I shrugged it off then, but now I'm seeing it more often - even as a rule enforced by TOs, to the extent where a player is required to give their opponent 12 hours to view the map (a proposition that seems rather complicated for a game where people often only play once per day).

Is this common etiquette for Fog games? Or is it just a personal preference thing?

I've always been aware that this is a slight advantage for a player joining last and getting first turn, but figured that it was just part of the game. Mostly luck based, just like drops & dice. In hindsight, I guess you could have an advantage by waiting last to join, but never occurred to me before and doesn't seem worth the trouble now.

Is it a widely accepted common courtesy to give your opponents a 12 hour viewing window?
Have I been an oblivious jerk this whole time?
Or is it more of a personal playing style that should be clarified before hand?

PS - I both searched and browsed for something relating to this topic, so if I am rehashing, apologies!

A courtesy. Yes.
Common. No.
A rule. No. (Except in some tourneys and clan wars)

The fog rule annoys me more than anything else on this site. I hate you fog rule!

Merged with one of the other threads on the same topic.
