Ok Woodruff.

It isn't illogical. Yea, if you don't say "gl" in this game, no one is gonna care. But if your girlfriend asks "Do I look fat?", you would say "yes"? How is that logical at all? "No, honey, you're not fat. You're morbidly obese."

Choosing not to lie can have costs sometimes, when people talk to you who do not have the strength to hear the truth. I believe it results in a better society overall though.

You're not going to make friends with that attitude, young man.

Besides we already established that good luck wishes are not lying. You're just being pedantic and lazy.

Is it nice to be able to assert something, and by having asserted it, therefore conclude it is true? It must be.

Comon man, stop being so fricking stupid. Just type gl and gg. It is not much of an effort, and you will benefit from it as well.

It's either a lie that you believe is harmless, or a true statement that implies that you want your opponent to have better-than-average luck.

If you can't understand that simple logic, that is a blemish on your mother's parenting skills ;P
You are an idiot. plain and simple.

Is that supposed to be a compelling argument? I'm not going to draw meaning from a statement that's been tossed around so much that it obviously has none. If you would like to, that's fine, but don't get upset when I call you a

Appologies, I should NOT have called you an idiot.

That said, your argument that being polite makes you a lair, is indeed an idiotic statement.

I see this same kind of attitude from the young folk often these days. There is just something missing from your makeup, that the generations before you clearly understood.

Why do you worry so much about being a lair, but have no qualms about being a donkey butt ?

False. If it's simply a statement of fact, it can't be idiotic or clever; it's simply true or false. The only thing that could potentially be "idiotic" is my conclusion that your attempted act of politeness, since it is a lie, is not actually desirable or genuine. If you believe that, then say it, instead of calling an assertion based on simple logic, stupid.

Why do you worry so much about filling your conversations with meaningless statements? I understand why people choose to engage in trivial banter when they know they don't really mean what they're saying, like when you say "how's it going?" to your coworker who you've said maybe three sentences to during your entire employment. The fact that I choose not to engage in similarly useless faux-conversation does not mean something's missing from my makeup. It only means that I don't do things just because other people do them.

You don't think a society where everyone was honest with each other would be better than the one we currently have?

some people just wanna play the game and have no interest in talking to you. so from now on, just pretend the players all said 'good luck' and 'good game' and move on from ruining people's rating.

No, I think a society where everyone is happy and can do things they love is better. A society where everyone was forced to speak the truth in every situation would be damn horrible.

Besides, truth can be a matter of perspective.

Who said anything about a society where everyone is forced to speak the truth? I'm talking about a society where everyone wants to tell the truth, because they have no reason to lie to each other.

At any rate, that's not why I act the way that I act. I believe it is morally wrong to lie, and so I choose not to do it. That's really the only reason. If you don't like my moral choices, I don't see why that means you should give me a two star attitude rating because I chose not to say anything in game chat ;P

Well, others may believe it morally wrong to stay silent in game chat. I don't see how you can question their choices to give you a two star rating if you do.

Although, this thread was about leaving 0-star ratings which is the same as leaving no rating at all (ie. it does not affect your ratings)

Anyway, I'm sick of this debate. If you don't want to say good luck for some unfathomable reason, fine, just say "have fun" or something like that. Surely you don't wish your opponents not to have fun while playing with you.

This is a lifestyle choice on my part. It affects every facet of my personality. It's ludicrous to say that the choice to always tell the truth is on any way the same moral level as the choice not to say "good luck" in game chat.

Of course I don't wish that. I just don't see how me saying it should affect the fun they have while playing. If the difference between them having fun and them not having fun is me telling them to have fun, then they've got bigger problems to deal with.

I typically at least say "Ahoy" and "Have fun" if I don't know any of the users in my game. Most of the time, I'm taking my turns and checking my turns when time is short, so I neglect game chat chatter unless there is something worthy to chat about.

Things are the way they are though and there is no way to change it. The rating system is inflated and frankly that isn't going to change. It's just going to get people pissed at you if you leave them a rating less than a five and cause them to in turn leave you a poor rating. I reserve "less than fives" for dickheads but other than that I'm going to leave a five in every category. The rating system in itself is dumb but that's a different story.

I say, "good luck" because I feel it is the most natural way to greet my opponent in a game. I want to let them know I have acknowledged their presence, but I would like to stay away from phrases such as, "Ahoy, for obvious reasons. Most notably, I am not trying to hail a ship when I enter a game on CC.

That said, I do not wish good luck on my opponents. Average luck, sure. Bad luck, possibly. But never good luck.

I am conforming to the norm, here. I simply wish to greet my opponents, but I do not actually wish them good luck.

And, yes, "have fun" is a great way to greet opponents. I simply use "good luck" because it's more standard and I don't give a flying f*ck about lying to my opponents...

I simply want to greet them so they think I'm friendly.

Also, in nearly every instance, I would rather win a blowout than lose a close one. This doesn't mean that I want all my games to be blowouts - that's no fun. But, if I had to choose between the two for one particular game... I'll take the win, thanks.

Hello everyone, its nice to be here. This is my first visit to the site. I currently have four games open and I am waiting for my turn in each. In my opinion to this post I believe that leavinga zero is fine if you prefer to be unconfrontational and/or fear a retaliation to your own ratings. Its a personal choice to rate someone in general. On the other hand I feel it is perfectly fine to drop them a point for silence as well. Its listed in the rating guidelines and furthermore it does seem kinda rude in my opinion to ignore a friendly hello or good luck. At the very least a thanks, you too, or even a smiley face is an acceptable response. There is a point to these rating systems believe it or not. I like to know prior to joining a game how a player acts in game and silence is a bit of a turn off for me. I prefer some basic social interaction. It helps ease the pain of defeat :D
P.S. rate however you choose too. As long as you feel its not malicious what more can you do?
