The scoring system is way too simple. Why isn't something like the Elo system? used?

Most noobs don't understand the scoring system anyway, so I'm sure they won't even notice they got hosed until later in their CC career.
There is no luck, only preparation and execution.

The simplicity of the system is probably why it was used. The Elo system is not suited to multiplayer and team games. The Elo system has been extended to cover both multiplayer and team games, for example, the TrueSkill system. It should definitely be looked into for this site.

Forza Motorsports uses an ELO system and it works great.

Yeah, it'd have to be changed somehow because it's not made for more than 2 player games. But the advantage with it is that it would prevent highscored players from earning lots of points by playing against newbies. I hate that.

Don't know anything about Forza Motorsports, are there team races?

I agree, there are deficiencies in the current scoring system which can be exploited to improve one's ranking. The effect is most pronounced in the team games. A TrueSkill like system would address that problem.

It should be investigated for use on this site.

One negative is that since the scoring system would no longer be simple, it would probably result in the kind of conspiracy theories we see all the time here regarding the random dice.

I would have to believe a more complicated albeit less explainable system of scoring would be preferable to the present simple system with it's inherent flaws and anomalies.

If both players where at 10 points one would go into negatives
If both players where at 20 points one would be at 0
