What???

I've been here 5 years and i have never won a 1v1 game...

and Andy has won 172 1v1 games... 59% of them!
I'd say that makes him pretty darn good at these...
meanwhile, i have only won 28% of all my games,
and I have yet to win a single 1v1 game...

I think that makes ME the darling in this match...
so you should be rooting for ME! *wink*

I don't know how anyone can be on this site for 5 years without having played a 1v1  ! If you win this one you can claim that you've won 100% of your 1v1 games . And just for that sake I'm rooting for andy! It would go to your head otherwise ;).

I been around robin. Anyway, um... you know that in a clan that you have to... you know, play team games. I don't know if they told you about this before joining. Anyhow, I guess you're the last of the old players to move on and try things other than std. esc. games. Well, have fun, maybe we'll find ourselves on opposite sides in a clan war : P

@Crazy, all of robin's threads (and she makes a lot) turn into picture battles.

Not necessarily. The Bandits choose real life talent over talent for team playing in an internet game every time.

These are my observations after 4 rounds into this:
  • Andy enjoyed a huge advantage going 1st
  • This has forced me to play a certain way every turn
  • If this continues, his same advantage will grow as a % of remaining reserves.
  • Is there any way to turn the tide?
  • Are all 1v1 games like this?
  • Is going 1st always so much of an advantage?
  • Am i missing something?

It's because we are on such a huge map. 1vs1 games on medium sized maps I've always found more fun and dynamic. I like having 3 to deploy, instead of 14. :D

ahhhh...
so you prefer WW1 style trench warfare over the mechanized blitzkrieg of WW2

Meanwhile, at the completion of round 6,
I am happy to report that i have finally broken BOTH your bonuses!
And I have a strong hold on Aussie.

But counterattacks are a bitch...

Sweet Solis for a moment of victory from the day,
my weary men brace for the coming impact of Five-Nines,
for that they are sure will drop all around...
knees like water, bent over, cursing the already parched ground...
Drunk with fatigue, anguish ouze's from every pore,
my men now rest, nay, they sleep.
Many lost boots this day,
but no time to dwell, the battle goes on...

nice match, by looking on the board I would bet Robin will take this one. anyway, if anyone comes to bad position, I may sit for one turn, just to bring him(her) back to the game ;)

it just looks that way because you saw it after MY turn...
it looks a little different after andy takes a turn...

1st strategy is to eliminate the 1st move advantage, to "even things up" if you will.
2nd strategy is to gain a stronger position, to have the advantage.
3rd strategy is to use the escalating setting to my advantage.

Simple as 1 2 3... now if i could just figure out the tactics to achieve those strategic objectives, lol...

Player ........................ Spoils ... Regions ... Troops ... Troops Due
r:AndyDufresne 4.8 ....... 3 ........... 43 .......... 90 .............. 18
g:Robinette 5.0 ............. 2 ........... 34 .......... 88 .............. 17

By the numbers only, this still looks pretty close.

But it's the bottom of the 9th, and i do beleive this is clearly tipping my way

Well NUTS... i was counting on andy NOT having a 3 card set...

Bottom of the 10th, and this how things look now:

Player ........................ Spoils ... Regions ... Troops ... Troops Due
r:AndyDufresne 4.8 ....... 1 ........... 49 .......... 98 .............. 22
g:Robinette 5.0 ............. 3 ........... 28 .......... 81 .............. 15

By the numbers only, i am behind BIG TIME :(

I need to have a cup of coffee and study this a bit more

EDIT............

Okay, i learned something big about 1v1 on that move...
hopefully andy will not capitalize on it...
i should have ignored all the small stacks spread across the board, and stayed focused on just the main front.
now andy can recapture his bonuses, and might even be able to bust one of mine...
i will not make that mistake a 2nd time.

After my move, we both have 39 territories, 74/75 men, and my only advantage is that i might i should be able to hold one of my bonuses.

I am really disappointed in myself for making that mistake.
I thought i had this all figured out, but i made a big goof...
