Superstitious Dice

Postby Sexcellence on Tue Sep 07, 2010 3:50 am

Hooray I just got totally decimated by dice rolling. Lost 8 times in a row 17 v 1.
But enough about that. What kind of stuff do you guys do, superstitious or otherwise, when you start rolling bad?

I logout and log back in

I wait 10-15 secs, change tabs, or go take a roll or two in another less important game to shake off the bad luck

Put your mouse on Auto-Attack, shut down your screen, press Enter and don't look at your computer for at least 15 minutes.
Since this is in Strategy, a little disclaimer: Don't try this if you want to win, this is a desperate measure, used only in times of deep frustration.

- JBlombier

PS. Make sure you got some strong booze close to you, you'll need it when you turn your screen back on.

When I first started playing, I'd knock on wood after every time I clicked assault. I don't think it helped.

Y'know that little period of lag that sometimes occurs when you click 'Assault', right?

Seeing that makes me lose the roll 0-2. EVERY TIME.

Whenever I lose a 3v1 roll I click auto-assault, then I usually win. Although there's that 1-in-100 time when this backfires badly...

When I started watching porn, I did the same thing. It helped just fine.

I have never honestly watched porn on the PC ever. Seriously. Unless you count the CC versions of it.

And i thought that was just me, seriously though it doesn't happen every time but it probably happens like 95% of the time. It does bring me a great deal of joy when that happens and i win...because I'm already thinking in my head that it is a loss.

It happens to me too; I hate slow connection days.

Ah so that's how you end up looking like that...you get bad dice. Is it worth the trade: good dice for muscle?

Now for a serious response...

I will pause when ever i have a double loss...
but whenever i have a double win, i re-click very quickly, over and over until another double loss surfaces...

if there are 2 double losses, then i'll take a long pause, maybe hit refresh...
maybe attack a single somewhere, anything to break the 'stickeyness' of the dice... lol

i know it's all superstitions... but it makes me feel a little better...

it's just that in real life, we enjoy doing things with the dice,,,
extra shaking, the extra wrist action on the release...
and of course, who can resist blowing on them,
yet these are all things you just can't do here...

It's not just you two that have this idea, Trapyoung, JakeWilliams and I were just talking about it in a game chat a few days ago.

Soooooo True! Lag after clicking Attack 99% of the time is a loss.

I FEEL IT IN MY BONES!

Take it from someone who's very good at earning a loss! :-s

The thing about "Robinette's strategy" is, it used to actually work, on the old dices... now when they changed the dice algorithm to be less predictable, not so much.

As for lag-attacks (pun intended, maybe): I've found that if I get lag when I'm having a bad streak, the lag usually breaks it and I get a good roll. And if I'm getting good dice, and get lag, then the next roll is usually a bad one. Go figure.

I usually only roll when the time is on a 6. So, 5:36. Or 6:00. Etc. Having a 6 in the time slot when the rolls are calculated leads to more 6's in rolls. There must be a cross somewhere in the Time/Rolling connection.

Why would you want the defender to roll 6's?
