Wait... i don't understand.

Are you asking if game life is cheap and therefore is it ok to suicide?
Or are you wanting to know if suiciding is a lousey way to play?

Why is so difficult for you to articulate a simple question?

just kidding...

can you see the words now?

I voted no. As long as the scoring system is the way it is (which needs to be changed) i believe you have to play to win the most points, or lose the least. You are supposed to play for yourself, not care about the feelings of others. After all, this is war. lol

Ah dude.... your way over complicating things. It's a simple question about the game. I want to know if you think sending all of ur armies agianst one guy to weaken him when you have no chance of beating him is cheap. Thus comes the term suicicde because such a move is throwing away your chance to win the game.

uhh, i believe i answered it. no i dont. That would be the part where i was talking about losing the least amount of points. If you are losing, to lose the least amount of points, you go kamikaze on the weakest dude because if he would win, you would lose the most points. Like i said before, i dont think it is cheap, but only because the scoring system is the way that it is.

I think the best scenario is for the points to be won/lost by each player be decided when the game starts (and isn't viable depending on who wins). Surely it can't be hard to implement?

How is anything cheap? It's a cost-benefit factor, Risk is all about politics. The people I detest most are people who try to make a game (any game) into some ritualistic brawl with a fixed mode of combat.

the scoring system makes it a viable tactic..... so no it is not cheep..

the scoreing system should be change though so people dont have stoop to such levels that the presant scoring system demands

honor

Postby Kahn on Tue Jan 02, 2007 10:28 am

Thier is honor in giveing up your life for a higher purpose. The way the scoreing system is set up the higher purpose is points gained or lossed. If i can limit my losess and maxamize my gain the net benifit is more points. a good general knows when to sacrifice a army to win the war. The war is POINTS. Points = rank. So just as dug has said its all about the system. Learn it Live it Love it...or hate it
Heck Suntzu you should know this or have you not read your own book?

I wouldn't suicide to throw a game but I do suicide sometimes to end the game quickly when I know that I have no chance. Why not break as many bonuses as possible? But using it to abuse the scoring system is wrong. However, I might feel differently if I were more highly ranked! :)

Depends on whether you take the points system to be the highest of your purposes...

it's stuff like that that really pisses me off... i keep going into games with higher status players because i know it's going to be more of a challenge and more fun.

In all 3 of the games (that are done) where i was the lowest player by far i was doing an amazing job. I owned half the board with two other players left. Then, in each one of them, one of them suicides against me just so i don't win and they lose less points!!

See, if they attacked me rationally and they teamed up- no biggie, they're just trying to survive against the strongest player- but these were complete suicide attacks!!!

It pisses me off so much when someone like me doesn't get the points they deserve just because someone doesn't want to lose 5 more points.

points

Postby Kahn on Wed Jan 03, 2007 9:40 am

you dont diserve what you cant take by force of arms...this is war. And untill the points system is changed it will be this way. Like you guys I belive the system promotes this way of thinking. However as long as it is this way you will see higher ranks looking at the "big picture" the "game within the game". Use the system or be destroyed by it.

Look guys, regardless of what suiciding may do to help you lose less points, its still a dirty and bitchy thing to do. Hurting another player who wants to keep fighting and has a chance to win just so u dont lose a few extra points is wrong.

finally! it's great to see some people that agree with me!

has anyone proposed a system where the points won or lost is fixed by the creator? Like all the options you have when your starting your own game the choices could be from stakes as small as

10 points per person

to

50 points per person

for the big gamblers.
