Dice - BOB - Ajax

Postby Blumoki on Tue Nov 20, 2007 12:11 pm

Since the Change the Dice have become Negative not just on my turns but everybody's in the games im playing.

So.... Is it the Bob Script or the Ajax fucking with the dice coding?

We need to sort this out because im not enjoying playing at the moment.

they cant be bad for everybody in your games, because for every losing dice, there is an equal number of winning dice, in order for someone to lose, it requires someone winning.

I have noticed that after a long period of indifferent dice (neither good nor bad) i often have a good period, followed by a bad period! and then possibly another indifferent period and then a slightly longer or shorter bad or good period! and so on the cycle persists!

hmmmmm this can't just be Random!

Well I am in a game now where for the 4th or 5th time in 3 days I have attacked with 4-5 times the amount of armies on a country only to kill maybe one guy. Example from that game now:

I attacked with 12 to a 3 man spot and after auto got finished I have 2 and he still has three. Because of that complete and utter crap leaving me with 10 loses in a row I failed to finish a guy off and opened both my borders to my opponents. His cards will now easily be scooped up, probably by some guy attacking with 4 just to add to the bs, and without those armies to fort MY borders I am gonna eat the set most likely. Basically one round of worst case scenario dice rolls and I have gone from upper hand to probably losing the game.

Everytime something like that happens I close the damn game window with the intention of not playing this game anymore. However I still come back and I still join new games because there are times where I will do nothing but win rolls in a round. I think I see a deffinate lean towards defensive dice being stacked, but it is universal and goes for EVERYONE on defence.

it goes towards the fact that the crap things in life are seared across our minds by a branding-iron. A branding-iron in the shape of a small schoolboy getting up to solve a maths problem on the blackboard. Only to find that his trousers fall down, revealing his over-sized, hole-ridden, womble Y-fronts to the whole class. (Including Jenny Catchpole.. so i hear!)

huhhumm! anyway the point is that we remember the bad more vividly than the good .. it's a self preservation mechanism! It stops us killing ourselves and helps us procreate.

the other thing is .. and this appears to be forgotten most of the time .... we only see every roll from the attacking point of view! how can we have a subjective view of the defensive rolls when we only see a fraction of them!?

i'll be back to argue against Ajax when my dice are a little worse!

Random.org hacked

Postby evster on Tue Nov 20, 2007 10:36 pm

I have often given thought to the so-called 'whimsy' of the dice.

I did a little research and Slashdot has a story http://www.slashdot.org about random.org having been hacked. Interestingly, the impact was more or less undetected and unattributed.

No one at CERN or the ever astute readers at slashdot had any idea why there was a skew on the random numbers generated that augmented the positivity of certain random numbers in direct correlation to the number of months of PAID membership at conquerclub.

So, in essence, the more money you pay to Conquer club, the better your dice, which in effect robs points from freebie members to give to the people who pay for the site. The haves, have, the have-nots, not.

In what appears to be a related development the website mathmaticus.com reviewed an extensive analysis of research in multilateral subsequent para-calculus and came to the conclusion that random.org was also influence by threads created which suggested that Random.org was not random.

this is complete nonsense - but I want to see how many people will jump at the bait

Please no more dice complaints. The dice are from a random generator. If you can only win games from favourable dice then please look elsewhere. This is a website for people who who can win over the odds. It is not your right to win. You have to fight your ass off to win in this website, which is why its a good website, my advice is to hunker down and battle every game, fight the dice, and gain ground slowly

People seem to forget also that a tie goes to the defender, so it's pretty easy to lose a bunch in a row attacking if the defense gets a streak of higher rolls. Don't get me wrong, I'm amazed too sometimes, but I just remind myself of all the things mentioned in this thread and tell myself duh stfu and just play smart, and let the dice fall where they may.

I really don't think AJAX has anything to do with it. That's like claiming that changing the codebase from Python to Ruby makes it "less enjoyable". Or blaming HTML for screwing up how much fun BBS's were. How do you think AJAX has changed things (apart from making the gameplay more responsive; and, yes, breaking some of the 3rd party addons, at least temporarily)?
