Cap for awarding points?...

Postby dragonz20 on Fri Nov 23, 2007 4:34 pm

Is it really fair for high ranked players to lose so many points from lower ranked players?

Wouldn't it make sense to place a cap for scoring?... like maybe 40 or 50pts?... It would still be a very nice haul if you beat a high ranked player.

if tehy would make 50 cap for scoring then it would be to easy for the high ranked players, i already lose 30 points when i lose to a player with 800 points...

ah i am not ranked high enough to lose 100pts. lol.

i just think 100pts is an insane amount for one loss...

technically if you had that many more points than the other person that you lost 100 werent the odds against the other player since he is so much lower in rank?

and i think my highest gain/lost prolly isnt any higher than 30 the only time youre going to see the cap getting hit is when like a cook plays the people on the top half of the first page of scoreboard or something but those guys mostly play private games so not gonna happen often lol

of course

I wouldn't know what a fair amount would be.......... I've counted my speed games in the last month where I lost over 30 points. In those 14 games-- I lost something like 451 points. It just makes me not want to play with those odds but I still do. ](*,)

here the formula

(loser's score / winner's score) * 20, up to a maximum of 100 points from each opponent.

I see nothing wrong with the cap where it is now. I play anyone, anywhere, of any rank. I like it that way. It's always a challenge and it's always a risk of how the board will lay out and how the dice will roll... But i'll always have skills to play with.... If you don't trust em, don't play.......

Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.

wow scott, 56 points - what happened to ya :)

For those who don't remember we did actually used to have no cap at all on scoring.

the 100 point cap was added in relation to a user jtb04 or something like that who seemingly went on a race to the bottom in order to steal lots of points on his way back up...or so everyone was afraid.

The scoring system makes it increasingly difficult to stay at the top. We like it that way. It makes being at the top mean that much more (actually, it means being above about 2500 mean that much more with the current point distribution)

It's easy to get into it - get points fast from other players, it's hard to stay in it - you lose points even faster than you gain them.

But yes, you do lose a lot when you are at the top, just not your whole point pool in one fell swoop :)

the handicap is very necessary... without it, the top scores would never stop rising

the settup now gives everyone a shot at the number one spot.....theoretically

It just takes some getting used to...

the best solution, which would allow everyone to play together, would be a point free arena, even on a limited amount so that cooks can play higher ranks for fun, without insane risk on the higher ranks part
