Fog Rules Question

Postby Rumondo on Fri Nov 09, 2007 1:40 pm

Let's say you are in a standard game with 4-6 people on a fog of war map and someone begins to run away with the game. Is it legal to share information on a common enemy publicily like say your playing on classic and the one color has SA and Africa. Would it be legal to say hey Blue and Yellow we should gang up on Green since he has two bonuses, He has 5 men on North Africa but only 2 on Egypt..

Legal, Morally Wrong, or Illegal?

Thanks,
JB

what's the point in telling someone's armies to others, if you chose to play fog of wars at the beginning. players should be able to follow the game from the game chat and guess where others can be etc etc. if they don't see them. you will destroy the soul of fog of wars games, if you start giving others information on a specific player. eg. where he is located, how many armies he has etc.

don't play fog of wars, if it's too complex for you.

As wicked said, it's not illegal as there is no rule but as Selin points out it's against the spirit of the Fogged up game. Even though it's shocking to conquer a single armied territory to discover it was hiding a thirty army fortification, that's part of the game. I don't want players giving me others' positions and numbers.

Fog of War totally alters the strategies of the game by allowing you to gamble with your deployments. Since snitching can totally alter that aspect of the game, don't be surprised when you receive negative feedback for revealing others positions and added to players' ignore lists.

I think you misunderstand. I understand it's in poor taste to spout of people's deployments, what I'm saying is when a game gets to the point to have a clear leader and everyone has to ally against that player would it not make sense to share information with your allies (like in real battle?) isn't that the point of Fog of War to begin with to add a bit of realism to it by making scouting and positioning useful?

I wouldn't come out of the gate and be like "Yellow just put all his men on North Africa!"

I don't see anything wrong with sharing information with some erstwhile allies on your common enemies troop deployments while you are all working together to take him down a peg. In other situations it is bad form and ruins the point of the FoW, but in situations like the one mentioned it is just like sharing military intelligence with an ally; if they aren't your ally then you really shouldn't be sharing intelligence with them.

I disagree with oVo and the others, I think communication in a fog of war game IS within the spirit of the game... you do have to wonder whose information to believe however. Much like a good game of Diplomacy, lying is a part of the game.

Mind you, all this communication needs to be done in the in-game chat, not secretly, but I think that was a given here.

I agree with piestar. There's nothing stopping anyone from telling the wrong information...disinformation or accurate intelligence, who knows. it's all still a gamble!
