3 dice versus 2 dice...probabilities

Postby Rozebud on Wed Aug 23, 2006 4:24 pm

There are 7776 possible combinations of 3 dice vs 2.....

2890 of those combinations result in win 2 for attacker... 37%
2611 of those combinations result in split....................... 34%
2275 of those combinations result in lose 2 for attacker... 29%

Of course, that does NOT mean you will get these results over the course of a game, or even several games.....but long term your results should approach these numbers :)

And NO I didn't calculate this manually...that's what computers are for :)

I heard that in the 1959 version of RISK, which is the original version, there are 3 attacker dice and 3 defender dice. That would be real confusion over the results of those. i do not have the original version but, that is what i heard about it.

I heard that in the 1959 version of RISK, which is the original version, the board was made out of steel and it weighed over 200 lbs. i do not have the original version but, that is what i heard about it.

I have the 1959 version of risk, and it is 3 vs 2. An interesting note is there was no fortifications in the rulebook
