Is this clever, or a mistake

Postby Piestar on Tue Nov 13, 2007 7:24 pm

Curious, in quite a few games of late, people leave their turn hanging for what appreas to be hours. Quite often, it is after Fortification.

Is this simply someone who forgot to click 'end fortification', or is this something players do with intent?

just curious...

It's a brilliant strategy. To annoy you.

it is sometimes done by mistake, and sometimes on purpose.

why you ask on purpose? Someone takes his turn and then sees he already has 4 cards and a set already. At a low level of turn in you do not always want to be forced to turn in your set. So you "forget" to end your turn and get no card. Then you can wait until the redemtion value is higher to turn in set

Ahhh.... I gotcha. Thanks...

Is it safe to assume from your tone that this is a less then respected strategy?

Have I ever used it, no, Would I frown on it being done , Not now that you only get an hour to finish your turn.. It use to be if you did not end your turn we had to wait the full 24 hours.

But not any more. So no i would not frown on it. but I play sometimes 150 games. and do not have to wait long for a turn. Someone who has only 4 games as a freemium player might get antsy but still there are worse things out there than this...

This tactic is mostly used in Freestyle games. Else, you can just end your game without attacking. (unless you have already attacked someone). If you don't like it (I don't), play Sequential games.

I would have NEVER thought of this "strategy" for myself in a million years.

I don't think I would consider it cheating to have a turn where you don't attack... thus delaying your getting 5 cards... and thus getting you a higher army count later.

Letting the turn "expire" though.

Just seems to me to be petty.

Yeah... card bonus'... especially in escalating games can be a big factor... and CHANCE... plays a big role in that. So I can understand the desire to overcome chance... and give yourself an advantage.

Still... just seems petty.

ive only used it 2wice and both times it works, its a lil dodgy but the way people win esc is with cards, not a whole lot to do with skill

That's pretty much how I feel about card games, you can beat someone soundly and then because of a random event they get 25 armies and can turn the game upside-down.

I like no cards, because then it's all about conquering the map, not getting a random "I Win" button.

Then you weren't winning.

Esc isn't random by any means. It simply introduces another element into the game. If you have a set or not can change things, so yes it does add another variable that does have some luck involved. However, it also reduces the impact of the drop and to some degree the dice. I think it evens out well enough.

I'd go so far as to argue flat rate has the most luck involved. Cards, sets that do not provide an equal or predictable amount of armies, and not enough armies to reduce the impact of the dice or the drop as much as esc.
