Calling all Siege!meisters

Postby The1exile on Mon Oct 29, 2007 4:51 pm

Since I've discovered I have something of a talent for no cards on this map, I'm curious as to how other people play with various options.

Personally, I like to either hole up with the throne and hall and hold from the inner walls and try to keep terits outside to allow attacks on enemies, or take a camp and build into the larger continents close by, with a view to take the gate.

Anyone else?

I have won many games taking the river camp and then the plains. Nice large bonus and only two territories to defend. From there the gate is close by with the extra gate + camp bonus.

Yeah, the forest/woods camp sucks in comparison to taking the River camp and expanding.

The two best locations to start from IMO are the River Camp or the Throne. Both let you secure high bonuses with low borders (+4 with two borders for River/Plains, +3 with 1 border for Throne and Great Hall)

The woods camp is another easy place to start, but its much harder to expand. Starting in the halls or the swamp is very hard. Starting in the walls, the midlands or the tunnel is basically suicide.

Yeah, that about sums it up. I have had the most success from river camp because most of my drops seem to land me there. The Tunnel can be an option, if you secure the border with the great hall and the outer wall and then attack the swamp. It is a much more difficult play, but could work.

the tunnel is tricky. 3 borders for a 2 bonus, with 6 terits? I wouldn't get stuck there by choice. Easier to take the swamp, and for a bigger bonus.

While plains and river camp is a strong combo, as shown in this game it's not foolproof, since Telvannia was sitting on it for many rounds.

It's actually this game which mostly prompts my question; I've pretty much got that one won unless I screw up majorly, it being the second 6 player no cards siege game where I've come to victory from the woods camp. In round 7 or so, I was last place for armies...

The throne

Postby General Fenix on Tue Oct 30, 2007 11:17 pm

I personally like to go for the throne just because its awesome to feel like I'm fighting a real battle and enemies are sieging me. I was playing a speed game with two other guys and I was holding the castle while the both attacked me from outside. It was one of the most fun games I've ever played because of how easy it was to imagine this battle going on in real life.

Midlands is great, too, you just have to build up slowly, and suddenly you're getting 6 bonus armies and noone will want to break it.

Midlands has 6 countries and each one is a border! If people let you hold that, then you deserves to win, especially because its surrounded by smaller easy to take continents where other players can establish themselves.

don't underate the tunnel.... sure its a low bonus for 7 territories but if you consider that you will get another 1-2 for having an extra 7 territories. not to mention that no one will both you there and break your bonuses. I have seen people last quite a while in those murky depths. and you can make a move on the inside and outside of the castle when the time is right.

That might work in card games where the bonuses don't mean as much, but in no cards, you'd be stuck waiting for the others to tatack each other before you could use the potential advantage.
