Help re "Note to self" button on chat

I am looking for information on the "note to self" button at the bottom of the chats. I am assuming that it allows me to post a private message that only I can see, but can someone please confirm that? I have been searching through the forums to get an explanation, but could not find it, so I apologize if this is something covered elsewhere.
