Seeing what happened during someone's turn

Postby psymann on Tue Oct 16, 2007 3:25 am

Hello all,

When someone else takes their turn, the log shows only a few things:
  • How many armies they got
  • Whether they cashed in cards
  • Where they deployed
  • Whether they took any new territories
  • Whether they fortified anywhere
What it doesn't show, but I'd like it to show, is the further information:
  • Where they tried to attack but didn't succeed in taking over
  • What dice they rolled in their attacks

Is there any way to see this information? I've seen people given feedback along the lines of "you were unlucky with the dice or you might have won" - but how can you actually tell whether people are being lucky or unlucky with dice when you can't see what they've rolled?

And being able to see where they tried to attack would be really handy so I can see what their plans are rather than having to remember the exact number of armies on the whole map and notice when the numbers change slightly.

Ah ok, sounds as if it'll come along soon, ta.

One other thing though, on a related note pehaps.

Is it possible to play-back through the board after (or even during) the game?

Eg, at the end of the game, you see the log of what happened, and you see the result (a board completely covered in one colour). What would be useful is if you can click through from turn to turn, to see how events evolved over the course of a game - eg rewind to the start of the game, and play back each move to see where I lost this time. Again, I don't think that is possible at present, but it may be that I've just now found out how to do it.

[www.redhotpawn.com have this facility in their chess games which is quite good as an example]

Someone made a user script to do that - check the Plugins and Addons forum.

It's often just a matter of remembering how the armies were stacked. I find this pretty easy to do, but I can't speak for anyone else. (I'd probably have a hard time if I was premium - the four game limit means I can put more attention towards them.)

But in the cases you're talking about, it's more likely that the person leaving the feedback made the rolls.

I only play 4 games at a time and therefore it is easy to memorise the positions/strengths of my opponents and recreate in my mind what happened the previous round. My son comic boy would play 30-40 singles games at a time without using any plug ins whatsoever and could pretty much work out what had happened in each match, extremely time consuming but he claims studying to that degree gave him a better feel for games and an extra edge.

I can see it being easier in two-player games, or when you log in often enough to see each person's turn in games with more players. But with six players, if you don't log in between your turns, you have to figure out what happened during five different turns. I personally find that beyond me since I can't dedicate the time to figuring it all out.
