What about a "Concede" button?

Postby DrTony on Mon Oct 08, 2007 11:54 am

Have you thought about a "Concede" button that could be used to withdraw from again when you have to be away from your computer or when the end is obvious? Sort of like chest when you knock over the King to end the game.

We have all seen games that end up drawn out because of a "family emergency" or someone having to leave town. We would avoid the 24 hour waits with the ability to concede. Speed games would be better if a player who has to leave the computer unexpectedly could concede instead of dead beating.

In games where you have no hope of winning but the other players had been taken you out yet, you could concede. This would be especially helpful for non-premium members need to get the game off their list.

You would lose point with conceding, obviously.

This has been discussed many times before and has been rejected on the grounds that multis will abuse the system.

= point reset. Problem solved.

The majority of law abiding CC players should not need to conceed for such a small minority who will get banned anyway.

We had a surrender button when the site began, and ran into lots of abuse problems with it and removed it because of "massive support" from the CC community.

It got abused a lot by people who would surrender if they looked like they would lose, got bad initial drops or didnt want a low ranked person to take them out (and thus their cards) especially in escalating games.

It's an unfortunate thing that it had to be dropped, but a (hopeful) solution to the known missed turns problem should be coming out in one of the next few updates to compensate for the lack of a concede button.

Hope that helps....

What if instead of making your armies go neutral (as it sounds like it did) why not just leave the armies, and just skip the persons turn? That way you can still get the cards, thus no abuse. As long as you loose points with it, what does it matter if they do it when they are loosing?

Well, what about the fact that they just stop attacking.

If you have a player who has been building up in North Africa to attack Brazil, and then suddenly leaves and stops attacking, that frees up all of Brazil's armies to move to Venezuela and attack North America who has not benefited from this sudden new wall that formed in North africa - essentially giving free armies to the player in south america.

Yes, deadbeating does this same thing, but it keeps a certain amount of "what if" for people to prepare (and be pissed off) for the inevitable dissapearance of the other player and freeing up of certain armies.

I'm not sure how you would work around that - reset all deadbeat countries to 3 armies? evenly re-distribute armies to all that player's countries?

Any thoughts?

How about instead of concede, it's a surrender button. that way the other, still alive, players have the option to decline the surrender and play it out?

Is it really that hard to wait it out, or in the case of a one-sided game, play to the finish? It seems like a concede button causes a lot of problems for a minor convenience.
