I've never ever won an Escalating game. How?!

This is just pot-luck isn't it.. You build up at 2-3 places on the map, and grab some easy cards without shedding too many armies, then if you're lucky you happen to have a set of cards at the same time that cards are worth something AND one or two other players with some cards are easily picked off.

If that happens then you win the game, if not you're toast.

Anything else to it?
Alex..? Alexander the Great, my Commander, what's wrong? Did someone leave you negative feedback again?

Yes. You make sure you have a set when the card values start picking up, you time it so that other people will have to cash for the lower amounts before you do, and slide to victory by taking out opponents with enough cards to allow you to cash once again.

From looking at your score and games played- you seem to be doing well. If you're having problems, I suggest you goto Strategy in General Discussion and sign up for a mentor. He/she can explain all the little nuances of an escalating game. It will help you grasp a good understanding of how the game is played. It's a game you should be familiar with as most of the high ranks play this style.

Thanks!!

(And since posting the above I also found a topic where exactly this is being discussed, very useful: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28523 )

While this seems over, what I do is I fight for cards and stuff like a flat rate game until I actually have a set and if I'm lucky enough to have one before 5 cards then I sit back and fort myself up until it looks like I can kill somebody.
Warning: You may be reading a really old topic.

Add for advanced play (since I think you are there):

You have to identify who will be the likely elimination targets and attempt to block the players most likely to be the eliminators from eliminating their target, while positioning yourself where you can't be blocked, without making yourself a target in the process.

Then you have to mani[ulate the board strength so that your position in the card sequence is such that your next cash will allow you to eliminate your target and sweep the board.

after all that work, if you're lucky, you'll get to mop up somebody else's mistake and win anyway!
