i would agree w/ ya comic, but it's really sad, i think the fear/hatred of losing is stronger for me than the joy of winning in almost all competitions, whether i'm actually playing or just rooting for my team(s). i'm thinking that's quite unhealthy and probably why i'm such a terrible loser!

and for all you folks that want comic or anyone else to "just forget about the points and play for fun," you need to understand that's not how competitive people work, ain't gonna happen.

you're the best comic :D

been at the point of ranking, but I decided to stand above it and stopped caring about ranking, it gave more fun, and thats why we play here.

I agree with a lot of what you've said Neph. It has been like that for me as well mainly because I punish myself in public games. It's relative to what Comic said about the points. In those games-- if youre lucky, you win 60 points and lose an upward of 40-50. As much as I don't like having 10 armies in 3rd round I still play them and hopefully some of the new players will become better in the process or atleast stay excited and don't have that 'fear' of losing quite yet.

An option for points-exempt games would be very nice. This is one thing where I would support this being a premium-only thing.

Currently if you play friends, or if you get a friend to sign up and play some games with them then you stand to lose LOADS of points for what should be some innocent rt fun & educating the newbie.

[ But then doesn't everyone already agree the points system sucks? ]
Alex..? Alexander the Great, my Commander, what's wrong? Did someone leave you negative feedback again?

Actually I think the points system is probably as fair as possible, a flat rate system would lead to a huge amount of unbalanced games with higher ranks targeting easy points from less good players. Perhaps one answer might be selective tournaments with no points at stake, dont know how practical that might be though.

ah, but at least you in the higher ranks would be seen playing noobs and then the noobs could learn a lot from getting their arses handed to them on a plate or they will quit because you battered them into submission.

Stupid gameplay is a bigger horror, as I've lost two games in a row where I held S.America on W 2.1
and someone decided to break me instead of the 40+ bonus of the Asia/Oceania occupant.

and at least a virgin still has something to look forward to.

hehe that happens to me most games. People sadly rarely see further than 2-3 steps down the line and attack those they can what they don't realise is they are just handing the game to someone else. Ok they might not win but they certainly choose who goes down with them.
