alliance question

Postby marmstrong on Thu Sep 06, 2007 8:26 am

Just wanted some back up on this, the possibility of alliances can be discussed via private messaging, but an actual alliance has to be announced on the game chat... right?

Yes - firstly announce the alliance in game chat so all players know. REmember to include any details like which borders the alliance covers and for how long the alliance will remain in place. After that you can discuss your private co-ordinated stratagy though whatever means you want. (e.g. PM)

Technically you're allowed to pm a player and ask for an alliance or pact before you say anything in the gamechat, as long as you're not actually allied it's in accord with the rules. However, many will consider it to be bad style and maybe even leave you negative feedback for it.
Ask in the gamechat before you send any pms and you'll be fine though.

I'm assuming so. Still. Using pm to discuss a possibility of an alliance is still in bad taste. Any offer you want to make should be made public first and then even if rejected, your stuck with the consequence.

Using PM to isolate one player out of the game and propose an alliance to them leaves room for either an acceptance or rejection and in the end, no one outside of you 2 are the wiser of what you've tried to pull off. It shouldnt be this way.

The ideal way to go about installing an alliance or a pact would be to point out why strategically it would benifit you and your targetted potential co-alliance member. If the strategic reason is introduced followed by a decision to be made by the other player, you will find the other player(s) more accepting and tolerant of the alliance or pact simply because they dont feel left in the dark and suspicious. They will be there when the deal is being made and will have an opportunity to make a counter offer knowing that they're not out of the loop.

To go about PMing someone and setting up the deal leaves said player out of the loop, he cannot know what is happening until you announce "Myself and so and so declare an alliance" etc... If the isolated player decides to make a counter offer, he cant because you guys will have likely solidified your diplomacy via PM. The isolated player has no idea what grounds your alliance is based on or any of the other information.

For all of the above said, although perhapse legal, it is in terrible taste to take Game matters into a PM. The extent of a PM's involvement in any game should be "Hey, its your turn in game "s****"

All in all any diplomacy should be handled in gamechat and gamechat only. Using private means of communication in non-team games is terrible sportsmanship and in horrible taste.

If you are ever caught doing it, Make sure the beast is in your ignore list because I will find you and when I do well..... you wont like it. Hunts never end well for my prey

hahaaa wow, 2 posts made right before mine? Guess I got carried away
