Vy Izz zeer zo meny mor orriz azziz den zeer iz orriz?

Postby Jork on Fri Aug 10, 2007 8:37 am

"Vy Izz zar zo meny mor orriz azziz den der iz orriz?"

These were the jibberish non-words used on a battered & beaten worn-torn sign I saw in the backyard when first visiting my wife-to-be 33 years ago. I asked her what it was, and she told me that her father who had recently passed away had constructed the sign years ago. I didn't know why he made it or why he wrote it that way, and it took me a few minutes to understand it, but I finally got it and was amused.

The thought of this sign and its meaning has stayed with me all theseyears, and I must admit that as I get older, I think about it more frequently and am still amused!

Couple of things I want to talk about...

For the most part, I am very pleased with CC! You don't always get what you pay for, but that is not the case here. I have had hours and hours of pure enjoyment playing the games here, and feel that I have gotten much more then I paid for. Thanks for the great gaming cite you have here - much appreciated!

The CC mileau...

Months ago, as I started to make my way into the CC "community", As I did this, I found that I was enjoying the games less. I was visiting the forums regularly, even posting a fair amount (though no where near "JOHNNYROCKET" standards). lol. But as I met with a fair amount of success, I started coming across very rude, obnoxious players. I began reading posts about team games being "lame", been accused of playing only team games for fear of losing points, and so on.

Unfortunately it is human nature to attempt to manipulate others' behaviors, usually, to benefit one's own end;, e.g., by daring or challenging others, ridiculing their playing style or preferred game type, name calling, etc. Unfortunately, It is also human nature on the internet to say very derogatory things to others from the safety of one's computer,
things that one would NEVER say in person because of the obvious obsurdity of the statement, or for fear of some retaliation...In my book, people who do this are nothing more then your common coward!

I'd read about players being banned for having multiple accounts in order to be "No.1", seen posts with so much hate in them, that I couldn't help but be affected...and I've been around for a longgg time!

Well, through some trial & error I have found ways to increase my enjoyment, after seriously considering quitting and I wanted to share them to other players who may have encountered the problems I have. Here's what I've done;
___________________________________________

I have removed myself from the CC community and I actively use the few controls granted me by this cite's creator.

1) I no longer visit the forums, except on rare occasions (like this one). In my way of thinking, CC forums should be only for game related play. Wanna put down Americans, or illegal immigrants, or whatever, there are plenty of other cites out there that cater to that type of thing. And the "Flames" thread"? Why even bother? That's where you find the nastiest of the nasty. Totally negative & utterly ridiculous, this thread and the hate
contained within just lowers this cites' integrity.

2) I no longer visit the "scoreboard" and haven't for several months now. Points have become totally meaningless to me - and I am enjoying my games MUCH more!

3) At least for now I only play triples, cause thats what turns me on. As BYR says, "There's nothing like developing a gameplan and seeing it come together!". I do not take dares or challenges or invites from players I don't know, and rarely do so with players I "DO" know. I prefer the random factor... I randomly set up my triples games or join others games. Why? Cause that's what I like and what I choose to do at this time!

4) I choose familiar partners who, from experience, I know to be serious players, who do not deadbeat, who are good players, and above all, who display good sportsmanship. I also play with unfamiliar players, but if he/she turns out to be deadbeat, not perform as a "team" player, rude, negative, unfriendly or display poor sportsmanship, then they are immediately invited to my ignore list, and that's that! (61 players currently reside there).

5) While I still use greasemonkey, I've turned off the "games waiting" feature. I play on "MY" schedule now. When I feel like playing, I play...not when my computer tells me to! (It was beginning to feel like a ball & chain!).

6) My God, Man! Don't take yourself so seriously! This IS just a game! If being the best at least for a while turns you on, then go for it! But by all means, have fun along the way! Remember, sometimes the path you take is even more important then the final destination!

7) Simply put, I now play only for the satisfaction of each individual game and maximize the probability of playing with and against nice people! It's always a pleasure "meeting" class act players!

...To my friends out there, those I've met and those I haven't yet, have fun! And if you have an answer to this puzzling question:

"Vy Izz zeer zo meny mor orriz azziz den zeer iz orriz?"

...then please let me know, cause I still don't know why!?!?!

If you don't play for points, then why in your interests on your profile you have put "Game High: 1st place -3495pts"? Surely if points don't mean anything to you, you won't bother putting your all time high score in your profile!? :P

Regardless, good article, I completely agree, except the bit about forums, I think forums just add to the fun. Except the arguments and the flames, which I try to ignore anyway, I enjoy these forums.

Phobia -

You are 100% correct! That reeks of hypocrisy!
I put that in at a time when the whole score thing meant something to me and haven't visited my profile for a while -

- but ya know what, think I'm gonna leave that little hypocritical mark in as my very small claim-to-fame of a time gone by!!!!!

I never said i was PERFECT"!!! lol

Jork
An excellent article with which I concur almost entirely. I still care about my points in as much as I would rather be a Colonel than a Corporal but have followed your example by putting sportsmanship at the top of my list regarding potential opponents. Im afraid that gamesmanship by certain players has made playing them no fun for me anymore and my ignore list has grown accordingly.

Well said my friend! I know we have discussed this between us more than once. And i agree that it would be a lot more enjoyable site without all the bull crap that drifts in and out. Any way what it all boils down for me is I am glad that your back, because i like you play with people that i choose to play with most of the time, lately i have played with more varity of players. Some i enjoy the game with very good and some not so good. But have to say I have about ten what i would call favorite partners, that list is growing, but with you Jork I have "never" had a boring game! Even the rare ones we lose it's fun to try to overcome the odds!

i believe that the reason for this statment is that some folks are born that way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I take it as saying:

Is that close?

1) I no longer visit the forums,

I read your entire post and this is the part I want to comment on.

To the original poster:
I think this is a shame. I get the feeling you miss out a lot by not using the tournaments forum. If you just don't find tournaments fun then I don't feel so bad though.

To everyone else:
I think this is a shame. It is most like the result of the moderators not wanting to punish people for moving their obnoxious flame wars and off topic banter to other parts of the forums. I think flames should stay in flame wars and off topic should stay in off topic, and anything other then that should be deleted and the posters warned.

CC has only 2 rules is a common defense, but in the suggestions forum I have seen lack saying this will probalby be changing soon.

There is a huge difference between blatantly off topic posts & flames and friendly banter and ribbing. Should the moderators ever start moderating these things I hope they are all clearly taught the difference. Although I've lost all hope that it may happen.
Warning: You may be reading a really old topic.
