New Maps (July 31, 2007)

Postby Coleman on Tue Jul 31, 2007 6:23 pm

It's that time again!

WWII Eastern Front
qwert
The most controversal map in history! (No idea why.) This map has been argued over more then any other map, running 146 pages of discussion at the time of acceptance. It started work December 4, 2006, you do the math if you want to figure out how long that is. If you want to see the monster that was it's topic look here: Clicky! The theme of the map is pretty obvious quickly and should feature gameplay most users are comfortable with. qwert is also working on Iwo Jima and WWII Western Front, hopefully they will be released at a much faster pace then this one took.

Valley of the Kings
cairnswk
cairnswk releases another map, With a startling 4 more maps on the way. This has to do with tomb robbing and Egyptian mythology. I think. I actually didn't follow it very much during development. I know I'm interested to play a few, but it might be a little out there for most players. This map has changed a lot from when it started, and I think for the better.

Montreal Revamp
WidowMakers
A couple things changed but I couldn't tell you off the top of my head. WidowMakers did this one. He revamped the Circvs Maximvs map as well if you forgot. This isn't as expressive as most of his works but is a major improvement over the muddy art of the original.

Eastern Front looks like it'll be a laugh... tho if playing it is half as much fun as following its tortured development, I'll be happy. :D

(of course, what I'm REALLY looking forward to is the stache stack map)

It's nice to see a more clear version of the Montreal map. The previous one was a bit blurry. I'd go for Valley of the Kings because it has many bonuses.

I vote for Montreal Revamp because playing on my hometown gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling, like drinking hot chocolate by an open fire after skiing on a really cold day.

I have to say valley of the kings. It was confusing for the first couple of rounds but once I got the hang of it the gameplay was great.

my vote has to be the eastern front map, as the valley of kings is a little confusing adn i have not gotten the hang of it yet, as for montreal, i have yet to play the old version and have not play the new version either so cant really comment on it.

Valley of the Kings.

I found that in Eastern Front that it is somewhat hard to get a bonus right away, except for that +2. Normally people go for +2 and +3, but there is no +3 and only 1 +2. That bugs me a bit.

Eastern Front is a good choice, although the naming of some of the territories is wrong - Ukrainian areas are spelled in Russian language (ie. Kiev and Lvov) not in Ukrainian (Kyiv, Lviv). Might not seem like a big deal to most, but when you're Ukrainian and the Russians have invaded, occupied, and killed your people over a few centuries, its a big deal.

Valley of the Kings takes a bit of working out but will reap rewards for those who master it.

I can understand that, but I believe since this map is illustrating a fight between the Russians and the Germans that qwert chose to go with the Russian names. I am sure this conflict came up at least once during the 146 pages of arguing over this map. So I wouldn't say the territories are named wrong, although you might not like how they are named.
