Help Please {{After-school program}}

Postby Mr. Houston on Thu Jan 29, 2015 9:36 am

Hello all,
I am the director of an after-school program and I really would love to use this site for my students to log on and learn this great game, but also to teach tactics, team work, and basic knowledge of how to use the computer. I was thinking most of you have all played here and could give me tips on whats the best way to 1:get them signed up, 2: how to start our own games/tournaments, and 3: how to keep the cost down because of course my budget is virtually none existent, or even 4: if this a good idea for middle school age students anyways?

Thank you for all you help!

Teenagers often come along to play here, it just depends what they're into.

All of you would have to use separate accounts. I'd make them and send a PM to king achilles so he is aware of the situation, since most of the time if there is more than one account with the same IP it's a cheat.

Unfortunately there isn't a price decrease for quantity, but I'd recommend waiting some time before buying premium anyway to ensure you're all going to stick around, then you won't waste money. To play games privately without upgrading you'll have to join at the same time, as password games are a premium feature.

There are also guide games which you can check out, which are speed games.

I'd also suggest setting up a usergroup so you all can have a private forum to chat in or leave messages in, if that seems like something necessary.

In the after-school program they actually get to choose what clubs they will sign up for, I have made Conquer Club its own choice on the list I am expecting 10-20 Students to sign up. With their school e-mail accounts. I will make sure I message King Achilles . Thank you for quick helpful responses.

would surely set up a usergroup and forum where you could discuss things. maybe talk to the school of cooks for some pointers... it would be cool to have your own private tournament between students after you got this all going...-Jésus noir

COOL!!!!
=D> =D> =D>

One thing I have done is invite you into the UserGroup WoW (Whom or What) which is pretty quiet, close to dead, but you might find some useful stuff there. I will try to be available to give you some help but definitely work with the volunteers/admins, set up your own UserGroup. Maybe get one of two of them willing to join the usergroup and help guide you and the students through things.

One possibility and this is really pushing the envelope, getting into some tricky areas, :D is at some time talking to the volunteers/admins and maybe possibly, perhaps, get some discussion going with BigWham, the owner of the site, about a special student rate or bulk rate. There are many issues there, especially with BigWham, for many valid reasons, wanting to move people from casual visitors checking out the site, to Freemiuum members, no charge but limited involvement in terms of number of games they can play etc., to Premium, paying members with all the rights in terms of game load etc.

I personally support much of what BigWham is doing, it costs money to run the site and there are perfectly valid reasons to ask people to pay for full service, but as you can imagine there are issues you probably should be aware of:

The best advice i can think of is keep it simple. Theres alot of in depth and complicated game types here just stay with the original stuff till you get the feel of it other wise you might end up turning some of your students off the site. As for the middle school thing that will be fine me and a few friends joined up in middle school.

I think the admins are clever enough to require some external verification of Mr. Houston's identity.

If this is an honest inquiry, I think it would be a very good thing, but I'll remain sceptical for now. Just as problem number one, why would he post in an open forum instead of sending an email to webmaster@conquerclub.com, which would be the usual first step in seeking permission for some group activity on a website.

I agree- this reeks. A"teacher" who has never played a game, not even taken a single turn on a Conquer Club game ? posts he wants to sign on a bunch of students to let them roam an internet site he knows little to zip on. And gee these students want to be your friend- they learned to come in the van and see the puppy.

I have removed Mr. Houston from WoW and would support any official "alert".

I agree it does seem sketchy but i have to say its not completely out of the question. My godmother runs several after school programs herself and i can see her saying the same kind of things as this guy i would even bet if i brought up the idea she might go for it. So maybe don't be so quick to exclude him without more proof first. I'm not trying to cause problems here I'm just playing devils advocate.

Your paranoia paid off for once =D>

go check my record... i am pretty much spot on... called wicked going bonkers and trying to ruin the site, they accused my clan of preparing such a "battle". declared insomnia read as a lunatic out of control and then faking her own death, jbrettlip and i were ostracized. called that blitz was a cheat, once again vilified by the community for "turning" on a cc friend. called out the war against the forum users as causing a decline in membership and forum use, *cough*. called the influx of maps and settings would dilute the site and interest, *cough*. called out the admins on their fairly non-existent and non-enforced bigotry guidelines and helped to start the discourse that began the new community guidelines (sadly misused by a certain admin to begin his war against the forums... "you all voted in this escalating scale, so now it applies to ALL infractions. ha!! love that kid!). called that global chat would effectively render LIVE CHAT as obsolete and a something held onto for the nostalgia of the old internets, people declared i was insane. called that dukasaur was fired from the newsletter for holding another staff member (12yrs of age and a BUBBLE BOY, nonetheless) at gunpoint in his mom's basement. OK, i made that last one up!! however, what to you is PARANOIA, to others is the freaking proof of the black jesus bible... may black jesus love your soul...-Jésus noir
