Real Time Freestyle Games

Postby safariguy5 on Sun May 20, 2007 4:08 am

Some people use a strategy in Freestyle RT games where they wait and see what everybody else does before they deploy their armies and make attacks. Do you think this is a good strategy or are these people just using the system to get a strategical advantage on the other players.

It is a legal tactic, it's just a tactic generally frowned upon. As to the last part, yes to both. It can be a good strategy depending on your current position in the game, and it can be used as an advantage.

Seems to me this would be the whole point of freestyle.

Don't really see what the problem is - I sometimes use this tactic myself (on the rare occassion that I play freestyle)

i very rarely play freestyle and even less freestyle rt's. however on the 2 occasions that i have i always went first, it actually seemed to help as the other players seemed to worry more about what i was doing than what they should do, i could effectively make them deploy more or less where i wanted. so i say if you want to use the tactic go for it, it dosent necessarily give you any advantage.

The answer is yes to both questions. If it's not against the rules then it is a legitimate tactic and if it is effective then you should use it.

The problem though is this website does not yet support Real Time games. You cannot force players to take their turns quickly. If two players are using this tactic then it will cease to be a real time game as both will wait until the last minute to finish their turns.

If you want to make a game with additional rules you have to password protect it. Explain your additional rules clearly and only give out passwords via PM to those who agree to them. You still cannot enforce your rules but at least if they are broken you have a legitimate reason to give neg feedback.

it is a legal tactic, but it sucks to have to wait for ages (30 mins or so-or more). Im waiting for speed games before i play rt freestyle again :)

Legal to do. The reason to never play freestyle RT.
