New Here but come on......

Postby rasor on Tue Apr 17, 2007 8:20 pm

I just played a freestyle game where it took 4 days to take 3 turns. I thought it was slow, but had its upside. No quick descisions, plan ahead, plenty of time to think about it, thought this had great possibilities. But one of my opponents was basically able go twice in a row(interupted by someone only placing armies) When he defeated someone he collected their cards and was able to immediatly cash them in. He played by himself for 2 hours, attacked some 30 times and won the game. Wheres the fun?wheres the strategy? Is there a option where you can only cash in cards at the beginning of your turn? Limit the number of attacks? Time limit?

all you can do now is go to callouts for an anounced real time game, or the live chat...sometimes someone will bail, but for the most part they will play through, but avoid freestyle...it doesnt mean it will go quicker...because timing comes into play, they sometimes take longer than sequential

sorry, but the real time speed games are coming any day....so we are told

Or you could play sequential, takes longer, but turn are one at a time in order...

its really just the nature of freestyle. if you sit on here long enough, you get to make a couple of moves faster than your opponents.

Well each turn is limited to 1 hour so your statement about him playing for 2 hours uninterrupted seems exaggerated. However there is no limit on attacks or card cash ins. Setting yourself up to take out many opponents and win the game ona single turn is a strategy in itself. Once you are in the right position playing out that game ending turn may not seem like anything special but its getting to that point which requires some thought. One option you might want to look into is flate rate or no card games. You can't get nearly as many men per turn in those games so extremely long turns are avoided. However you should be warned that people are also less agressive out of necessity and the games last much longer because they stay more balanced.

next time you play a freestyle game when only 2 people remain wait until about 5 minutes left in the game then take your turn. It is basically cheating, but within the rules of the site and will give you a huge advantage.

you're probably best of finding some real time games through live chat or call outs forums and play the rest casually. Try to stay away from freestyle it tends to breed cheap tactics.

One word. Sequential.

Heh, the dude apparently had plenty of luck. All of his sets were mixed and he didn't have any troubles with the die.
But I'd recommend playing Sequential. I dislike Freestyle as well, even though I've won 66% of the FS games that I played.
