Wisdom Of Supply chains

Postby chipv on Thu May 01, 2008 6:55 am

Hi, all,

Just joined conqueror club and so far joined 8 man Classic (mostly escalating and none single fortify) games so waiting a lot for turns.

I was wondering what general strategy is wise in the beginning of the game if you have a set of adjaecent territories with no real chance
of capturing a continent.

The following options occurred to me:

1. Split 3 or 4 territories into 2 and work off that
2. Try and maintain all territories iff possible
3. Try and use the chain as a supply route for fortification

So, as I say, escalating and either chained or unlimited fortification.

As an example say you have 3 or 4 territories in Asia - i.e. no real chance of capturing a continent anytime soon.

I hope this is clear, and hope to get expert help, please.

Thanks in advance

I would go with option 1. try to get a few spots around the board, with a decent enough force that no one will try to take it from you, and just keep taking easy cards and stay strong until it comes time to eliminate people.

Welcome to conquerclub! Enjoy!

Thanks, Timminz,

I suppose it also depends on exactly which territories they are - I think it can be too draining to attempt to
maintain a long chain of territories with so many players around (8). On the flipside, maybe collecting them all
into one pile is also a mistake long-term, I'm going to see what happens.

Thanks again

I didn't mean to try to maintain an entire chain, but rather to slpit the chain into the 2 furthest ends

Yes, I know and I agree with you, just talking out loud discounting the other options, sorry!

One reason why I initially was thinking about maintaining the whole chain was actually
scenario-specific. It is possible to have a connected chain in one of my cases and actually not have
to man some of the territories because they are not bordering any enemies. I am seeing how things pan out
to work out what to do the moment - I was very interested in what your thoughts were, so thanks again, a
great tip for beginners.

I don't know where to put this as I have no idea what I'm doing. I have, of course, played the board game.

Is there a central place where things are explained -- e.g. -- what are the question marks (?) -- what do they do? I didn't see anything that explained that.

Thanks if anyone can explain that.

Question marks are unseen territories in fog games.

It's better to play non-fog games until you're more familiar with the game.
