Classic Map Stratagies

Postby xXxOS86xXx on Sun Jan 06, 2008 5:59 pm

I do alot of 1v1 matches on the Classic because I am good at that map, but I could always listen to my peers when it comes to getting better. So does anyone have any stratagies for the Classic map that they would like to share or discuss? :D

Cool I was thinking that, but what happens when you get a bonus of 2 while your opponent gets a bonus of 5!

Simple.

In 1v1 don't go for a bonus unless you already hold 90% of it.

Focus on taking out your opponent.

is this thread specifically about 1v1 games, or do you want strategy fo other numbers of people (5,6,7,8 players) also?

In 1vs1, I find there's a lot less 1vs1 strategy that can be applied - if you can grab a bonus easily, do it, if your opponent has a bonus, either fight tooth and nail over it, or take a bigger bonus to fight him/her with. Otherwise - fortune favours the brave!

in classic 1v1 only taking bonuses when it is easy and focusing heavily on my opponent has worked well for me

Best strat advice in 1v1 classical is dont attack a neutral country unless you either cant attack your opponent or your about to get creamed and need some crazy luck. Remember if you attack a neutral you turn them into your enemy, it is like giving your opponent how ever many army's your attacking.

Their are some exceptions to this, I have done it before when I had all of Australia except 1 spot and Siam was neutral, and my opponent had all of SA except 1 and Central America and north Africa were neutral. But baring some crazy board setup 95% of your games shouldnt have you attacking a neutral army till the game has been decided.

Keep your composure - if you see an opponent has gotten a continent on round 1, just try to get a 15 t. count to get a 5-6 match next turn - then use it (A) Take his bonus if you are positioned with a chain, or (B) Take Europe or NA if and only if there are no neutrals, 1 neutral max -

This is for flat rate freestyles.

i play this game setting alot...myt advice, though it was partially mentioned. dont go for bonus unless u have 3 out of 4 of the territories (sa and oceania obviously)
instead try and get your opponent deploying at only 3 troops a turn asap. however there must be a balance that you dont leave 1s all over the place.
this said in unlimited forts people tend to for most of there armies to one spot.. i suggest only doing this when u are confident that the group of armies will do significant damage to the opponent. ie put u in a winning situation..

If you happen to get most of a big continent, taking it in the first turn means they will be preoccupied with knocking you out of your continent instead of gathering their own. As they have to keep getting in the same place every turn, they usually end up failing eventually and then you get bonuses that can be used for good old-fashioned Hulk smashing.

A tactic I've seen used by high level players is giving their ambient territories all one extra army. Loads of twos mean the defenders cause a lot more damage when someone invades because they get two dice instead of one.

Don't leave any territory without 2 armies on it... Always be on the offensive... Be subtle.

General strategy can't take you far, adapt your strategy to the situation, your oppourtunities, and your opponent's tactics.

Asia can be a save haven for territories. Try to take any sitting ducks that people leave there, they will add to your territory count and possibly give you more armies per turn! If you have 11 armies, and there's two 1's in Asia, take 'em so then you'll have 13, meaning that you'd have to lose 2 territories in order to not get 4 armies the next turn. Don't try to much to break a continent that has a bonus of 2 when you're getting 5 armies already simply by owning 15+ territories!

first try to get a continent, a continent that you hold most places with, including North America. i like playing these 1v1 games. i always win if i hold North America

if you have at lest 80% of the continent, start with that. if not, delay you opponent from getting their bonus.

You'll have to be more specific: question marks where?

The question mark on your rank means you haven't finished enough games to be ranked yet. If there's question marks on the map, that means you're playing a game with "Fog of War" turned on, which means you can't see a territory until you are in a position to attack it.

You can find out more about both of those subjects by clicking the "Instructions" tab at the top of the page.

When you start by going for Asia you take your opponent by surprise.

I just hate classic map though, its my number one points loser, probably because I went after my Speed, Assassin, and Freestyle medals mainly playing classic and played against lower rank players most of the time. I also think the strategies are infantile on that board so even stripers know them well enough.
