Noobish diplomacy question

Postby Azinctus on Sun Nov 13, 2011 12:42 pm

What does private diplomacy mean? I've started my first standard five player game. Can I use diplomacy to forge alliances? How would I do that? Is it in game chat where everyone can see it? Or can I send private messages to other players?

Yes, all diplomacy must be conducted in game chat. Secret Diplomacy is when an attempt is made to conduct diplomacy outside of game chat, i.e. PM's, wall posts, emails, etc. That will get you in trouble, so be sure to do everything in the game chat. Good luck.

Is diplomacy rare? I imagine that forming a two player alliance at the start of a five player game will only inspire the other three players to form a three player alliance. Diplomacy must be very general too, a team could hardly form complex forward looking plans without giving away its intentions.

Can anyone point out a game where there is diplomacy so I can take a look at the sort of things that get discussed?

here you go, simple and clean win just because we (haha I mean I) made a deal, after which they broken it without prior notice, and thus got "backstabber" reward from me... Game 9783857

Diplomacy doesn't have to just involve truce. You can ask someone for a spot to get a card. Make a truce on a certain border, but not other places, etc.

It probably is unwise to just start a 2 player truce at the beginning of a 5 player game though.
