I've never "purposefully lost" a game to advance in a tournament. Rather I have employed sub-optimal strategy in an individual game within a tournament, if that sub-optimal strategy is the best on a global basis at promoting my advancement within the tournament.

It is never my objective to lose a game, but sometimes if advancement is the goal it follows that one must attack against the overall leader or 2nd place person if you are the leader. This often means that your chances of winning that individual game are compromised. Hell, I have never met or played with anyone who hates to lose more than I do, but given the alternative of losing a game or losing a tournament - I will lose the game.

it is the fastest way of not being allowed into new tournaments, getting foed and bad ratings, but it is allowed. However within the mecanics of a tournament, they may set rules that means you loose the tournament if you do this, they may also set minimum missed turns percentage, so it would bite you fast, but its legal. intentionally deadbeating (3 turns in a row) however is illigal

-Throwing a game for no reason = Suicider (mark them as such and move on).
-Throwing a game to advance in a tournament (where throwing a game can be good for you & is allowed) = S-t-r-a-t-e-g-y and is to be commended as Good Strategy (again, mark them as such and move on).

-As for missing two turns for the extra's on the third. As previously stated, not against the rules, I don't like (or do) it either and I suppose their could be some extraordinary set of circumstances that may lead to that strategic decision so...

it's not against the rules.
