PEACE GAMES

Postby stockpicker on Wed Aug 10, 2011 4:19 pm

I'm in an unusual game its like round 50 or so and i have 600 men, no lie 600. people have been trading ground on nuetral territory for 20 plus rounds, no massive attacks, no conquest, no excitement. Dont get me wrong its been a fun game, but it is a war game right. The problem is everyone has such massive reserves that everyone else is afraid to attack anyone. Its the whole "Mutually Assured Destruction" scenario. It could go on forever. Is this normal ? do you encounter many of these games ? Well ive spotted a weakness in one opponents defenses and have been slowly assembling troops in small enough number that they've gone unnoticed, Ive also amassed a reserve of 106 directly to their rear. Im going to exploit that weakness, "DAM THE TORPEDO'S". I can feel my bloodlust rising, there has been PEACE for too long, 'If I lead, follow me, If I retreat, shoot me, If I am fallen, avenge me" CHARGE

They happen occasionally, some for mug longer then you. My personal longest is 100+/- rounds after an 8 player double game got to 3 singles left. Then it took awhile, but I won ;)

Game 5384550 - 601 rounds and still boring.

Fortunately CC had the foresight to accidentally kick me from it and 43 other games so I wouldn't have to suffer taking the turns.

if you don't mind me asking, why don't any of you go on the offensive? the worst that could happen is you lose right? going out fighting is better then pissing about waiting to be kicked...

It's completely unsportsmanlike to do so... Besides, if you do suicide, you know you won't win. If you sit around, there's a chance that the other 2 players will kill each other allowing you the win.

it's unsportsmanlike like to suicide not to actually play. when stacks get that big odds are in the attackers favor to have a large stack remain i can see a game changing move in at least three of those games that isn't suicidal in the least. besides isn't it unsportsmanlike to allow the stacks to get that big in the first place?

The stacks got big in the first place because no one was in an advantageous position to attack. That has nothing to do with sportsmanship. Now, tell me a move that I can make in my game which is game-changing and that benefits me, since I see none.

That's true if you are down to a 1v1 situation. If one player expends a lot of troops to destroy another player's stacks, then a third player could easily swoop in and clean up both weakened players.

not if you spread the love evenly and arn't stupid enough to attack recklessly. you don't have to obliterate an entire stack of 2000 in one turn. then again the game CC is based on is called RISK for a reason.

Well ok, then you weaken everyone about the same. You're at stalemate again, but just about 50 rounds earlier.

and eventually it comes down to reasonable numbers and common strategy can be implemented. sill with stacks that big chances are good that even if you do go all stack terminator, if you keep your wits about you, you'll still have enough troops left to have an edge if you spread it around.

even if i'm talking out my ass, nobody will win until someone makes a decisive move. you'll just have to accept that if you do make the move there is a chance you may not win, but you'll never know until you do.

You have to recalculate...

Attacker's dice advantage is about 55/45, so if you attack 2 players you are still way behind...

regardless it isn't suicide. period. we can fight forever about it but in the end you see it as a hopeless deadlock i see it as an obstacle that can be overcome. so long as you play smart you still have the ability to win.

This could have some resolution, though, just because of the disparity in the troops being received and the troops held.

You can always get deals going etc. sometimes, (generally not when there's 3 players, though), you can try to play as a team i.e. 2 of you get a truce going and the others do, until the other 'team' is knocked out. When it's just you two left, you fight it out. You could be like I'll handle blue, you handle red, or i'll break this bonus and you go for that etc. it can work out well if you don't expect your opponent to take out a 2000 stack while you take out 20 or something like that. If you keep things fairly even, can be a far quicker end to the game.

I did just that as i stated i was about to when i made post, however as soon as i launched major offensive i had family emergency had to go out of state 1000 miles by car, needless to say I missed a turn, the counterattack was brutal due to my opponents two successive unopposed assaults, I thought i could recover, but then I had to drive back 1000 miles again missed turn, now my once proud people are refugees forced to flee in search of shelter and respite, pray that death may be quick and that i may face my oppressor again in HELL ....bahawawawa

Usually, unless there is some solid agreement on reaching a certain round number/date without any hostilities, there should be some attacks going on even if the setting is no spoils.
I'm in the longest Doodle Earth game CC has ever had (in terms of round number, the second longest was 850 rounds) and teal attacked me several rounds ago..
