Is there a reason to why off topic post doesn't count

Is there a specific reason as to why off topic posts doesn't count in the post total? Isn't that like not counting tournament games in the game total? A post is a post and a game is a game the way I see it!

Off topics is mostly spam, trolling, religious, tea party death squad and other forms of pointless debate taking up server space.
