Random.org vs. alternatives

Postby rogower on Sun Apr 17, 2011 11:32 pm

Rather than complain again about the obvious dice generating mechanism, I thought I'd ask a different question.

Is Conquer Club considering switching to a different dice generating mechanism of some sort? Or has CC considered doing so in the recent past? Are there alternatives to Random.org that are available? Just wondering.

Random.Org isn't the problem.

Moving to Q&A.

Also, not to my knowledge. All discussions I've had with Andy give me the impression that the admins are perfectly happy with the randomness of the assault cube outcomes that they get from Random.org.

There has been a lot of debate about the dice before the switch to random.org. Considering CC is constantly upgrading its account by Random.org, in that they need more and more numbers and the use is different from when we started (because the strain on the cc servers sometimes meant it used the same numbers again) I am going to assume no new developments are in the works, and I have heard nothing to indicate such a move.

However, this does not need to stop you from doing some legwork and find a better system. I don't know, but if it would be up to me, the player who finds a better system that works well for CC should get a medal for its services... I'd say hop to it.
Just Remember, CC needs to load a whole lot of dice a day, needs to work swell with peak capacity, need to be significantly better and should not be much more expencive, or at least those are the lines along which I think, I aint cc.

happy hunting

I say we get one or two of the lazier mods/admins and just make them roll the physical dice and take pics. A means for punishment/job security.

Problem solved.

i'd do it for every one of your games.. if I got any pay out of my cc volunteer duty. All of us do this for free you know..
Although as a new subdivision for punishments... I assume you mean mods only?.. Sure why not.
Should make some new laws too, like dereliction of duty as seen by non mods, one opinion suffices…
