Is the Cook's Guild Predatory?

Postby Funkyterrance on Fri Apr 15, 2011 2:15 am

I was poking around the Cook's guild forum and saw some names there that didn't seem like the type who would help out cooks out of the goodness of their hearts. Is this a haven for farmers to train their zombies or am I way off base? It would just be sad if the Cooks guild harbored a bunch of wolves. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, you are indeed way off base here. ;-) but your question is good.
I do not know if you can actually see the cookforums, but i invite you to browse it if you can.

The teachers there actually teach via the use of the forum and class advice as opposed from joining games against students. ofcourse there are also games where teachers battle against each other with students on their team. There is no farming going on there though.
The SoC is something amazing and I urge every elligible player to join there quickly.

Thx, since I have been informed on this one I don't mind at all if the thread is deleted. Can I delete my own thread?

mmm.
Once you got a reply you cannot delete your post, but you can alter them..(edit)
. if no reply has been made after your post, then you can also delete it.
I could delete it for you (being a mod in this particular forum, but not e.g. in suggestions), but I am not supposed to. Deleting threads is frowned upon. Ofcourse If it would help you, i'd do it. I cannot see the harm.
I mean it, your question is good. evey question should be searchable, so others can see if they have the same question what a previous reply would be. up to you though.

As a proud graduate of the SoC, I can assure you that it is not predatory. The instructors are devoted to helping the students improve. They do not, mind you, pull their punches. They play real games with the students and they play to win. But the point is to teach, and everyone is delighted when a student beats his teachers.

I suppose the best evidence is the ranks. The ranks of SoC instructors fluctuate somewhat, just like everybody else's, but I think the highest-ranking teacher is a Major and most of them are Lieutenants or Sergeants most of the time. If the whole thing was a scam to farm the students, then most of the teachers would be at least Field Marshals by now. The truth is that the net flow of points is slightly in favour of the students.

Thanks for the input all :)
The only reason I suggested deleting the thread is that I didn't want to offend anyone.
It sounds like a very good organization.
