Long games/suicide F tards

Postby eternal242 on Sat Jan 22, 2011 6:45 pm

Most of my games(std, no spoils) tend to run months long and I know that going in. I work different strategys to the situation as does everyone here(hopefully) and if it takes 5 months to play out my game plan that is what it is gonna take. Seems like I end up with these players that give up suicide and f*ck any strategy up just to end the game. I know they may have not planned that the game would be more than 15 rounds but I don't want to have to force them to stay in it if there only choice is deadbeating. Is there any way that instead of deadbeating if these players want out they can quit and have their troops go neutral.

I've always felt that if my strategy didn't take into account someone suiciding, then it's my strategy that sucks.

The downside to playing 8player NS or FS standard vs random nubs is as you point out the suicide and stupid-move factor. The bright side being that as a man of patience and strategy you'll win a rather high percentage of your games, as patience is truly a key factor in the games.

Your other option is to advertise in callouts for experienced players/ NS/FR-enthusiasts that won't suicide after 25 rounds of play. Ofc this too has it's downsides, namely that the games will last so much longer than your average 8p-FR. As a freemium you might find it boring to be tied up for more than a year in one game :P
This is the result of the last time I did so Game 7666636. As you can see we are getting nowhere fast. 60 rounds into he game we've got 7/8 players left, and would have 8/8 unless ES hadn't gone out of town for work and deadbeated.

As for your question, there isn't really any way to "let them out" of the game if they get bored. It's just something you need to work into your strategy, try and stay out of the way of the loose cannons, position yourself (if you can) in a way that makes it more likely they will charge into another of your opponents.
It's one of the amusing sights of CC, a private will join a relatively high ranked 8p esc game, and you'll see anyone finding themselves sharing SA or Oceania with him flee for their lives if they can ;)

Anyway, I'm digressing here... Good luck, and if you want a game with decent competition I can round up a few stable standard players. If you can spare one of your slots for 6 months/a year or so ;)

/Regards

P.S. I have to add; playing 8player NS or FR with 7 other good players is for the most part rather boring in my opinion. It's the loose cannons, idiots and suiciders that make the game a challenge, interesting and unpredictable. So I'd stick with random people and try and handle the disappointment of being suicided upon every once in a while. That or find another game type to play :P I love 8p FR in small doses, keeping about 3-5 running out of my usual 25-50 active.

Just so you know, a long long time ago, there was a suicide button. It was heavely exploited and its drawbacks were much much greater then its benefits. it is therefor not likely it will return.
You will indeed have to stick it out. obviously some people ask in gamechat to be killed instead of deadbeating. It is common courtesy to take them out

Yes I understand, and I can see how a suicide button would wreak havoc with cheating and such. Suppose the player asking to be killed is the best option. For me the longer the game goes the more stradegy it takes and I am cool with that. This is part of my initiation I suppose. I think I just needed to bitch somewhere it would at least be heard. I tried to point out the travesty to my girlfriend and a shoulder shrug with a "It's a game" ,even though that rang true it was not the support I was looking for. Thanks for the replies.

Arama86n I will have a game available today as I will be quite soon killed from my current one.
